We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

The OGL is set up by WOTC, which can be revoked
who set up the license has nothing to do with whether it can be revoked, that is a matter of the terms and conditions. Neither CC nor the OGL can be revoked

WOTC made the right call moving both 5e SRDs to CC.
yes, because no one would trust them any more with the OGL or a new version of it. If WotC erroneously challenged it again, you would have to defend against a company that can outspend you 100:1 on lawyers. With CC others will join the fight

By all accounts, CC licenses are superior to the OGL.

With the OGL I assure you that others would have joined the fight. There was a lot of talk behind the scenes. Too many companies have properties that are affected by the OGL, many of which have nothing to do with D&D. It would have turned into WotC vs the Industry, and the chosen token victim would have been boosted into the stratosphere by the publicity. And that’s bad odds, and really bad optics, especially when your argument is wrong and has no chance of winning, and you don’t really have anything to gain. It was never going to happen.
