Unfortunately, David C. Sutherland III (DCSIII) one of the original D&D artists whose work graced many of the covers and interiors of early D&D & AD&D products, is terminally ill 
For those interested: With the help of his sister, many of his original D&D collectibles, and pieces of artwork are being auctioned off on ebay

I'm quite saddened at this news. Although DCS may have never had the spotlight like Tramp , Dee, Otus, and others of the early days..many of his pieces were excellent inspiration for me, and helped define the look of the game.
