We are about to lose a D&D Icon

JeffB

Legend
Unfortunately, David C. Sutherland III (DCSIII) one of the original D&D artists whose work graced many of the covers and interiors of early D&D & AD&D products, is terminally ill :(

For those interested: With the help of his sister, many of his original D&D collectibles, and pieces of artwork are being auctioned off on ebay

Details of his illness, along with a list of auction items are posted

Here at The Acaeum

Start at the third post down on the second page

I'm quite saddened at this news. Although DCS may have never had the spotlight like Tramp , Dee, Otus, and others of the early days..many of his pieces were excellent inspiration for me, and helped define the look of the game.

I plan on bidding for some of those items that his family is putting up. I hope I can help in some small way. Perhaps we can start a Paypal benefit to take up donations. Has anyone heard about this already happening other than the auction?

I haven't heard anything like that Dustin. You could ping Paul Stromberg, who is running the auction, and see if he's aware of any such efforts. He's reachable through the Acaeum boards, or email me if you can't find his contact info.
