Legend
In my e-mail D&D campaign I recently had two of the players over for a short face to face game when my brother (one of the players) visited me recently (only one of the players in the game lives in the same state as me, the rest are scattered across the country).
They fell into a teleport trap separating them from the rest of the party and had to fight a beast that had previously broken into the bad guy's mansion and fallen into the same trap and ended up in the sealed prison room.
The two characters are a druid and paladin. The paladin has a coin that the party wizard had cast missive token on so they can contact him in emergencies when separated. Missive token is a spell from Complete Book of Eldritch Might.
They had previously killed the owner of the mansion and explored part of his basement where he kept prisoners he was interrogating and finding many secrets but noting that it only seemed to be under half the building. They then went upstairs where they found trapped chests of loot and the teleport trap in front of a magical staff on display. The stone walls of the room they teleported into match those of the basement, which are different from the upstairs mansion walls. The floor is the prison room as in the basement so the druid conjectured that they were in a hidden room next to the basement they were in before. The bad guy has been known to have been in multiple different places, including a brothel, a duergar foundry/smithy, an efreeti merchant's home, etc. all of which the wizard has been to and can teleport to, but also another plane the party has not been to and probably a bunch of places in the city they have not seen as well.
Here is the paladin player's e-mail:
Here is the text of missive token:

So here is my message for the group:

Unfortunately, neither Malachi nor I remembers how it works. I'll hold it in my hand and talk at it, with feeling and try to cast my thoughts at the coin out into the ether:
"Jonas, if you can hear me, we killed a beast but now are trapped with no obvious exits. It looks like we are in the dungeon of the mansion or something. Help!"
