We just finished Night Below

Our very committed DM converted Night Below from 2E to 3.5. We started playing two years ago, one session every two weeks. We went from level 1 to level 21.

The final battle against the Grand Savant was last night, and we kicked its butt. Not in an anticlimactic way, but a very satisfying way. Three of the six characters made it all the way through the campaign. We had only two permanent character deaths, and the other character joined after the campaign had already started.

Our party was:

Aethelred Aethelios, elf duskblade 5/wizard 1/abjurant champion 4/ultimate magus 11 (me)

Detta, human cleric of St. Cuthbert 21

Ginny, half-ogre barbarian 21

Sinraafaa, human knight 21 (unkillable, was never even resurrected or revivified during the campaign)

Cyrooze, zeph nomad 21

Arnora the Red, human warlock 21

I'm DMing a 4E campaign for the group next, since our DM hasn't actually played D&D since he was 12. He's been exclusively a DM for 28 years. Time to give him a chance to play.

So despite the fact that none of the other players post here, I just wanted to thank Geoff, Alyson, Tanya, Derek, Jacen and Sean for a great campaign. It was a slog at time, but well worth it.

I actually played a session of Night Below with some of my old high school buds back when they were IN high school, and I was a 2nd or 3rd year university student. During that weekend, hilarity was had by all during one particular mass melee
with regenerating creatures
which culminated in a TPK. It was also the same weekend that I discovered the Skills and Powers supplement, which I used and taught others to abuse (in record time) before heading back to university.

One of the players, my current roommate and solo player, kept the box set. He found it while cleaning the other day and always regretted that he did not finish it. I thought about converting it to 3.x but wasn't sure just how much effort it would take.

So I ask you, gentle sir or madam... would you kindly ask your DM just HOW MUCH work went into converting the module and let me know here in this thread? I'm sure other DM's may be curious as well.

That's pretty cool. Night Below is one of those adventures that I would love to convert to 4e. I just need 30 hour days for a couple of months, and I should be able to find the time and energy ;)

Congratulations, I'm glad to hear that other folks have enjoyed the Night Below box set.

Herobizkit, I wasn't Fifth Element's DM, but I was involved in a conversion effort for the box set and I did DM it. It's a fair amount of work, but I still have the conversion documents for all three books - they're in serious need of editing, but they make a fair jumping off point.

My group also did a 3.5 Night Below campaign. It still ranks as one of my top five campaigns ever, I wuvved it so much.

For anyone who's looking into doing it: Have you and your group watch the Planet Earth episode on Caves.

Hell, for anyone doing anything involving the Underdark, this should pretty much be mandatory, I'd say!

Night Below is truly an epic game. I was Refined Bean's DM, and although I side-tracked the game quite a bit, the entire thing was phenomenal to run in 3.5.

I wish it was converted to 4e though. Maybe I will find the time to do it someday.

I stole huge chunks for my last campaign. The adventure had some problems, but also gave us some tremendous fun.

Congratulations, you guys!
