Wealth: Abstraction vs. Accounting.

More accounting than abstraction, but it is a blend.

We keep track of everything down to cp, though we do it with decimals, always in the gp equivalence. In other words, 15,637.89 gp, for example. I don't require people to buy new ammo, and i don't include it in treasure hauls. I just assume people pick up replacements as they need and it comes out even. I do require them to buy the first set. Meals and upkeep I generally ignore completely, though more because I'm lazy than due to aesthetics. In the future, I might use one of those abstracted upkeep costs per month rules. Inexpensive materials and foci for spells come in the pouch. Anything not inexpensive they have to buy and have in their gear list. They can't just "deduct 500 gp for that onyx and pretend like I had it all along."

I prefer abstract systems as a rule. Except for the most expensive goods, I like to handwave the buying and selling of 'typical' equipment.
System with abstract wealth rules work very well, imho. They also happen to avoid the oft times ridiculous amounts of money experienced adventurers use to throw around in games without one.
