Wealth & Pooling of Resources

iwatt is correct. If you have the book, the relevant table is on page 204.

(all figures are US $)
DC 10 is $91 to $120
DC 12 is $151 to $200
DC 40 is $500,001 to $650,000
DC 26 is $9,001 to $12,000
DC 50 is $9,000,001 to $12,000,000

As you can see, four DC 10 purchases do not equal one DC 40 purchase. Nor do two DC 26 purchases equal one DC 50 purchase.

Using MSRD examples, a deluxe mechanical tool kit is DC 20. A learjet is DC 40.
Both IRL and in game, two deluxe mechanical tool kits are not as expensive as a learjet.

Thanks guys. I think I've wrapped my head around it now. Still doesn't make any sense to me why they did it that way, but I can at least see what they did.

thing is, the DC not only say how exxpensive something is, but also how long it will take....

and dont forget that you can take 20 on the test, so a person have a effective wealth bonus of his bonus + 20. this however results in the shopping time to take 20 times as long. and with it normaly being equal the dc in hours this can get very interesting if they need said jet in a hurry.

it may even force them to try alternate routes to getting hold of one...

Like, two guys with Wealth bonuses of +20 might try to buy something of DC 30 together, with one 'aiding another' and providing something like +4 or +6 to the other guy's Wealth check. Too bad the rules-as-written don't support this.

As I mentioned previously, the system I use works pretty well. two people of very similar wealth (1-2 points apart) benefit pretty well from pooling resources. Once the wealth differences is 4 points apart, the ability to cooperate is negligible. I didn't pull the formula out of thin air. it's based on Moridin's conversion to a wealth system for Star Wars, I played around with the numbers some more, and made them more stremalined to be in tune with True20, but they should work well enough in modern as well. The other system posted upthread is pretty good to (I think it's more accurate than mine), but it's based on charts, definitely something I don't want to return to. :D
