Weapon Familiar

Forsaken One

First Post
Just putting this one out there to see what people think about this.

Weapon Familiar
as a character uses a weapon more and more they get familiar with it know the balance and how they can swing it per level they get a +1 to that weapon as a bonus if the loss that weapon they loss the bonus and have to start again this only work on the weapon not the class of weapon.

What do you think about this?

Is the +1 to both attacks and damage? Does this only apply to melee weapons, or do ranged weapons qualify too? Is this ability a feat; a class exclusive skill for warrior type characters; or a general ability that occurs naturally for everyone (monsters included)?

Just some questions before I start spouting my thoughts :).

I'll comment, though this needs to move to House Rules.

1. Make it a feat - very low entry requirements - BAB +1 maybe.

2. Make it apply to non-magical weapons only.

3. If the weapon is lost or broken, the bonus is gone. You have to re-start even if you recover the weapon (unless it's before you go up a level). You keep the bonus if you get the weapon repaired.

4. You can take the feat only once and it applies to only one weapon at a time and you cannot re-choose a weapon - except, of course, if you lose/sell/give away the weapon - then you may choose another of the same type only.

I think that wopuld work and is balanced by the incompatability with magic weapons. This bonus is a competence bonus - to both attack and damage.

This would be most helpful to use for a primary weapon with a mgaical weapon to back it up for overcoming DR.

1. The bonus only works to attack.
2. it applys to both but only your primary weapon.
3. Not really shore at this time most likely going to be a feat

Q1. Make it a feat - very low entry requirements - BAB +1 maybe.
A1. This is what i was thinking

Q2. Make it apply to non-magical weapons only.
A2. Good idae

Q3. If the weapon is lost or broken, the bonus is gone. You have to re-start even if you recover the weapon (unless it's before you go up a level). You keep the bonus if you get the weapon repaired.
A3. But afer a repair the weapons balance would be a bit difrent so that would not make it fair may be if they lost a level after the repair it would work out better

What about making it so that if you use any other weapon, you lose 1 point of bonus for each combat you use that weapon? By not continuously using the weapon you would lose some skill with it after all.

Ok then how about this:

What if it was a continuation of weapon focus you take this feat the level after you have taken weapon focus it then well only level you up 1 point every 2 levels if you use that weapon more then 80% of the time
