Here's something I learned just yesterday...
According to the Character Builder program, if a spellcaster using a weapon for an implement takes the Weapon Focus feat, the feat bonus to damage from that feat applies to all implement-based spells he uses.
For example, a Wizard who takes Weapon Focus (staff) will gain a +1 feat bonus to damage for all wizard spells he casts with the implement key word, when he uses a staff as his implement.
Very interesting...
