Weapon Master

The reason I am sticking with the +3 weapon is that I have the very *distinct* feeling we will be fighting a couple fo things with DR +3/x and I dont want to be helpless. Plus it protects me more against sundering.

Here is his backstory if anyone is interested.

Mannie Inglestone (5'1, 165lbs)
Orphaned among the freezing mountains in the barbarian north, Mannie was rescued by a group of dwarven scouts looking for new ores, who lived under the very same mountain. He was brought into the homes of the Dwarf clan Inglestone, and given his current name Mannie, to honor his human ancestors in an odd dwarven way.

He managed to grow to the proportions of a small but stocky human, or perhaps a overly tall dwarf either through force of will, or the force of the 5' caves he inhabited most of his life. He has tried his whole life to fit in among the dwarves and had mostly succeded, though it in turn suppressed his ties to humanity.

After a particularly nasty raid of Giants and Orcs nearly wiped out his Clan, Mannie decided to dedicate his life to the martial arts practiced by dwarves with the Hammer and shield in an attempt to prevent it from happening again. The Clan could no longer hold together after the grave loses, so they split their ways and joined other Clans in the surrounding regions. Rather than have to convince new dwarves that he belonged with them again, he took his possessions and heirlooms from his deceased surrogate family and struck out for revenge.

Though he eventually killed all the giants responsible, and as many Orcs as he could find, his taste for revenge was never satisfied. His travels among men has brought his hammer mastery to a new level, as he has combined sheer dwarven power and tennacity, with human skill and mastery. To this day he still seeks out any Giant or Goblinoid to slay no matter the cost to himself or others.

I see... Maul :D

Like it. As for weapon enchantments... if you want to keep the +3 maul, what about dropping the keen enchantment for something else (sure striking or any other ideas)?? You already have a real nice crit range...

I may be mistaken, but if I recall correctly mithril full plate is still considered medium armor, and since you are neither a monk nor a barbarian, your speed should be 20 feet, not 30.

Happy Bashing and Pounding !!!

Hello again, Glad to see that you have found a Fighter Character that you will have fun with. The Character looks really tough and has a much better AC than your Sythe weilding hero before. Reminds me of the 2nd edition "Dwarven Battle Rager" with the spiked dwarven Plate etc...If your DM allows it maybe he would let you add on the Dwarven Defender (DMG) Prestige Class after you have completed the Weapon Master Prestige Class. You could say that you went back to your "Dwarven Roots" and have found a way to integrate yourself back into Dwarven Society by slaying the clans enemies as part of this very elite unit. Just figured out that you can edit your original posts, within the same thread...DOH !!! And who knows maybe your DM will let you "find" some better armor or something else to protect yourself with. I was always under the impression that a Maul was a "Two Handed" Battle Hammer or such ? Is this true ? Anyway glad you are seeing the joys of hacking and slashing or shall we say in your case "POUNDING"...hahahaha...bye for now.:D

Ranged combat?

Uhm, if you have some cash left... what about a mighty (+4) comp longbow? Perhaps +1?

You need a GMW for the arrows anyhow, should hit rather well and since you can't fly... you can at least play flak and take all those dragons out of the sky.

WHY ISN'T THIS FORUM POSTING REPLYS ?

HELLO ALL, JUST A QUICK QUESTION, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS FORUM HAS NOT BEEN RECORDING REPLYS FOR THIS THREAD "Weapon Master" IN THE "Number of Replies" COLUMN ON THE MAIN DND RULES FORUM PAGE. I ALSO NOTICE THAT YOUR POSTED REPLIES DON'T ALWAYS SHOW UP STRAIGHT AWAY AS THEY DO ON OTHER FORUMS, IS THIS BECAUSE OF HIGH TRAFFIC OR AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG WHEN I POST

*covers ears* caps off please. Yes, the forum does get overly crowded from time to time and has even been known to go down *gasp* Its not that big of a deal. I'd rather have too many people here than none at all.

I did a little tweaking to actually power my character down a little. He was very far and beyond in terms of killin power than any of the other characters in the group hehe. Here he is finished with 2 new items!

Mannie Inglstone Fighter 6/Weapon Master 7
Medium-Size Human (5'1" tall, 165 lbs, Brown hair/eyes, tan skin)
Hit Dice: 13d10+52 (128 hp)
Initiative: +2
Speed: 20 ft. (medium armor)
AC: 24 (+9 Dwarven Full Plate, +3 large animated steel shield, +2 Dex)
Attacks: +20/+15/+10 +1 Impacting Sure Striking Maul
Damage: 1d10+9 16-20 x4
Face/Reach: 5 ft. by 5 ft./5 ft.
Special Attacks: Ki Damage 7/day, Ki Critical 3/day
Special Qualities: Dwarven Traits (from belt)
Saves: Fort +10(12), Ref +9(11), Will +6(8)
Abilities: Str 18, Dex 14, Con 16(18), Int 13, Wis 14, Cha 11
Skills: Intimidate +4, Listen +12, Spot +12, Tumble +9, Wilderness Lore +6
Feats: Dodge, Mobility, Combat Reflexes, Spring Attack, Expertise, Whirlwind Attack, Weapon Focus/Specialization/Improved Critical/Power Critical: Maul
Possessions: +1 Spiked Dwarven Full Plate, +1 Impacting Sure Striking Maul, +1 Animated Large Steel Spiked Shield, Belt of Dwarven Kind, Boots of Speed, Horn of Blasting, Type VII Necklace of Fireballs

He is still a veritable power house in melee, though just a tad less kill-o-riffic. I have kinda always wanted a horn of blasting and necklace of fireballs, but could never justify getting them in my metagaming mind. It adds a tad bit of versitility. If people are pelting me with arrows, I can blast em with the horn to stun them, or just lob fire balls back at them :) Who expects a fighter to toss a 10d6 fireball!

The Horn seems really cool, all I can picture is Gimli sounding the horn at Helms Deep :D Just the image I wanted! As for the Necklace... I dont want a bow i guess hehe. Just hope I dont fail a reflex saving throw against a fire attack... fortunatly my refx save is pretty good so I'm not too worried. 56d6 of fireball damage cant hurt too bad... O_O

Yes, its quite true! If you will notice though the large shield is animated, so it floats around my body while I can use both hands on my Maul. Maybe not the most effecient use of magic items but it sure creates an interesting image. A floating shield intercepting your blows aimed at him, must be demoralizing...

Sorry for C A P S !!!!

Thanks for the fun afternoon at work tring to make a good fighter. There are indeed endless possibilites especially with all the books coming out every month, so it seems. Have you tried looking in the Quintessential Fighter ? Would you consider another prestige class after you finish the Weapon Master ? I forgot about the caps lock then had to go to a meeting after I had posted it. Oops !!
