Weapon Size Confusion

It dosn't mesh well. I'd much rather they had fixed some silly inconsistancys in the weapon chart (small rapier vs. kukri) myself...

Huh? Where's the inconsistency?

A Small Rapier is Small Martial, a Kukri is Tiny Exotic.

A Tiny Rapier would only do 1d3 damage. Since a Kukri does 1d4, it's Exotic. It makes perfect sense.

Kukri is martial in 3.5

What?!

Disintegrate, Harm, and Haste, okay.
New DR, whatever.
Power Attack, Spell Focus, Druid spiritual oaths, Pokemounts, no big deal.

But Martial Kukris?! That's the last straw!

Anyone else having trouble with this new weapon size system, whereas the old one was perfectly clear?

I swear, it's like going to THAC0 after having "To hit".

Exactly... I think this'll be the first thing I houserule about 3.5. It's unneccesarily complicated and doesn't add to balance at all (it just screws over some Small characters, as now they need specially built weapons -- +5 medium longsword? Sorry, you need a +5 small greatsword.)

What point does this serve, exactly? Is this really neccesary to "clear up certain class weapon proficiencies (especially the rogue's)." (quoting Pbartender).

Another annoying thing-

Ranges won't change for the missile weapons. That means a medium-sized shortbow will have a range increment of 60' whereas a small longbow will still have a range in. of 100'.

If you are using the weapon equivalence rule from the DMG, which bow do you think you'll pick?

The old system was based on medium sized creatures.

A halfling could get a short sword, but not a halfling sized longsword or greatsword.

Why can a halfling buy halfling pants, but not halfling weapons? He doesn't need Short Pants.

Why does a giant use a greatsword as a longsword? Can he not get a Giant sized longsword? Do ALL races buy weapons from humans?

The variant in the DMG says that Milo the Halfling can still use his old short sword without a penalty.

BTW, did you notice this?

TWO WEAPONS FIGHTERS: -2 penalty to attack.

SWORD AND TOWER SHIELD FIGHTERS: -2 penalty to attack.

OVERSIZED TWO HANDED WEAPON FIGHTERS: -2 penalty to attack.

They'll probably be rejigging weapon descriptions and proficiencies to account for this. Even if they don't, it's simple enough to house rule.

Or anyone who gets Simple proficiency but not Martial, really. Why bother with getting Martial Weapon Proficiency (greatclub) when you already have Simple Weapon Proficiency (large heavy mace)?

Because you swing a large heavy mace with a -2 to hit (if I have this new system down, which I'm not entirely sure I do).
