Weapon skill mastery

In my games i have recently found a very helpful use from a vidoe game i have been playing that uses weapon skill levels or mastery levels, while this rule effectively nullifies several weapon related feats it opens up the possibility of customizeing most classes to specific weapons EX:a warrior mastering only axes could still have a fairly high sword skill and effectively use both weapons without any problems. the only problem i have encountered with the rule variant is determining how to calculate weapon exp and what weapons to offer to what classes.
oh and with every two or three weapon levels there is an ability i added for each type of weapon EX: axes get stone splitter at weapon level 4.

thank you.. i'll take this into consideration but i'll prolly make the weapon groupings a tad easier to use and most of them will be built into the classes already
