Weapon Specialization and spells

Does the damage bonus for Weapon Specialization apply to non-hit point damage?

Say a Ftr/Wiz has WS in rays and energy missiles. Does his enervation spell do an extra 2 negative levels? If he casts ice knife, does it do 1d8+2 regular damage and 4 points of Dex damage (instead of 1d8 and 2)?

If an undead fighter has a touch attack that deals ability drain, can he take WS in it and drain more points her hit?

The damage is still hp damage of the same type (if possible). So, enervation does +2 negative energy hp of damage. It's never additional levels, ability damage, or ability drain. It's only hp damage.

I believe this is covered in a rules of the game article. By my reading, specialization in rays deals 2 extra damage of the same type. They specifically mentioned enervation (or ray of enfeeblement) doing 2 points of Negative Energy Damage that is, the target takes 2 extra points of damage, and the type of that damage is negative energy, so it wouldn't hurt an undead or someone with death ward. I imagine ice knife (if it is a ray, sounds like a simple ranged touch attack to me) would deal 2 extra points of cold damage. Specialization in ray always adds 2 points of damage, never to any other effect.

Hi!
Rules of the Game: All about Sneak Attacks said:
Spells that inflict energy drains or ability damage deal extra negative energy damage in a sneak attack, not extra negative levels or ability damage. For example, a 10th-level rogue who makes a successful sneak attack with an enervation spell deals 1d4 negative levels plus an extra 5d6 points of negative energy damage. If the sneak attack with a weaponlike spell results in a critical hit, the damage from the spell is doubled but the extra sneak attack damage is not doubled (as with any sneak attack).
Maybe it was this (analogy)...? ;)

Kind regards

Nice try ;) :p

Now just imagine a rogue/wizard sneak attacking you with enervation :uhoh:

I guess it makes sense if you can take weapon focus ray your could specailize in it, but this is really the first I have heard of it.

So, quick question then, how does that work with magic missle, +2 for the spell as a whole or each missle and what would you need to specialize in?

I'd say it's like Warmage Edge for that class in CA. The bonus to damage is only applied to the spell once, so for magic missile, it only applies to the first missile.

It doesn't work with Magic Missile.

Magic Missile is not a ray spell and, more generally speaking, it is not an attack. Accordingly, nothing that grants a bonus to attacks affects it.
