Weapon Specialization

Don't you think that there should be 4 sets of Weapon Specialization, just as there are 4 Two-Weapon Fighting Feats?

Something like this...

Weapon Focus
Weapon Specialization - 4th level Fighter

Improved Weapon Focus - 8th level Fighter
Improved Weapon Specialization - 12th level Fighter

Greater Weapon Focus - 16th level Fighter
Greater Weapon Specialization - 20th level Fighter

Epic Weapon Focus - 24th level Fighter
Epic Weapon Specialization - 28th level Fighter

This would make going past level 12 a LOT better for fighters in general as they would actually have something to do with thier feats after 12th level.

I like your concept, though I wish they'd not have named ITWF "Improved" -- I prefer to see that word used with feats whose main purpose is to avoid AoO's and provide a bonus.

I'd suggest using (normal) - greater - superior - epic using the progression you've suggested. Add "perfect" if you need another level in there.

It's a good idea; we need some mid-high teens fighter feats.

Would there be any great impact to opening up the lower level focus & specializations (Lv 4, Lv 8, and Lv 12) to the other classes when using this chain? (change the prerequisite to BAB +4, +8, and +12)

I think that they might add Superior Weapon Focus and Superior Weapon Specialization in a new supplement.

I was also thinking that it would be fair to make Perfect Weapon Focus and Perfect Weapon Specialization stackable every 8 levels after Epic Weapon Focus and Epic Weapon Specialization.

I think that weapon specialization should remain the realm of the fighter.

I agree only partly with that. Now that there are technically three tiers to the Focus/Specialization tree, shouldn't the lowest rank of specialization be made open to everyone?

I am playing a level 12 fighter right now and I see little point in not multi classing, I think that level 28 is a bit high but I belive that fighters should get something more...yeah I fighter only gets 2 feats that no one else can get. I think they need more then just more strike and DMG but I think that is an excellent start, fighters need some flavor added to them.

I've started work on a new Focus/Specialization feat chain of my own. Here are the names as a teaser.

New Feat Chain
Basic Weapon Focus [General]*
Basic Weapon Specialization [General]*
Weapon Focus [General]**
Weapon Specialization [General]**
Advanced Weapon Focus [General]
Advanced Weapon Specialization [General]
Master Weapon Focus [Epic]***
Master Weapon Specialization [Epic]***
Grandmaster Weapon Focus [Epic]
Grandmaster Weapon Specialization [Epic]
Perfect Weapon Focus [Epic]
Perfect Weapon Specialization [Epic]

* These are the regular feats from the PHB but with minor differences.

** Theses are the Greater feats from the PHB but with minor differences.

*** The Master level feats are technically the same as the feats in the ELH but with minor differences.

Anyone ever play the revised basic D&D with mastery and grandmastery of weapons? Master gave you an extra attack, and grandmaster increased your damage die by one step.

Just reminded me of that.

*shrug* I think 4 feats just to add a flat x to attack and damage is plenty. What you need are more *interesting* feats.

Give the fighter the ability to do things with weapons no one else could dream of. A 20th level straight fighter should be an AMAZING combatant. In 3.5 they're certainly a lot better than in 3.0, but there is that 8 level gap. If only there were some feats with +15 or +18 BAB requirements, or even 15 or 18 levels of fighter.

Something like mobile full attack - prereqs 16th level fighter, 19 dex, whirlwind attack (& it's prereqs) - you may take a 5' step before and after each attack when taking the full attack action, as long as you don't move more than your speed. Movement in this way does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

Make dire charge like 18th level fighter (get a full attack when you charge).

Give them the ability to get the uncanny dodge abilities at high level (if anyone should be able to fight against two guys on opposite sides of himself, it's a high level fighter).

High level fighters have a lot of options, but they don't have any that are more powerful than what any other class can get eventually.
