WeatherMaster and other weather generating programs

I was wondering if anyone else found and used any weather generating programs in their games and what they thought of them. Did they add anything to your game? Were they useful or just too much to try and keep track of for too little reward?

Personally I use a program called WeatherMaster . It is a weather generating program (surprise, surprise!) for fantasy worlds (or any type of world for that matter). It allows you to create weather details for any type of climate. You can automatically generate 1 day or 1000 days of weather conditions at the touch of a button. It gives you daily information such as sunrise/sunset times, minimum and maximum temperatures (in celcius and farenheit), wind speed and direction and cloud cover. Another feature calculates how you can see on a given day (useful for campaigns set on the high seas i.e. can the PC's sight land). You can create custom weather conditions if you need something out of the ordinary to happen such as a huge storm in the middle of summer or a big tornado suddenly hitting the city. You can even adjust the axis tilt of the world and the program will calculate the effect that has on the seasons and weather patterns. If you want the days to be 40 hours long it can adjust for that too.

Another part of the program allows you to create your own calendar. You can decide how many days, months, etc., there are in the year. You can customise the names of the months and days (and the year, I think) and you can add in special days such as holidays or festivals that may occur outside of the regular calendar. My memory is a little hazy but I'm pretty sure that it includes the phases of the moon (or moons if you have multiple moons) on the calendar. The attention to detail in this program is fantastic in my opinion.

Has anyone else found any other weather generating programs out there? The only other programs that I have come across have been extremely basic models that you pick a climate you want and it will tell you what the weather will be for the next day. Admittedly these programs were free, whereas WeatherMaster does cost money. It does, however, seem to take things to the next level. You can download the complete program (with all the features that you would get if you bought the software) for a free 30 day trial. I recommend that people give it a go. Since it has a free trial period you really don't have anything to lose.

Just so everyone knows, I am not connected in any way with the owners/makers of WeatherMaster. I'm just a happy customer who wants to spread the word so that other people may take advantage of what I think is a great program and make their games more fun to play.

Mods, I'm not sure if the boards are against pimping products, whether the poster has a connection with it or not. If you feel that this thread goes against board rules feel free to delete/close it. I am not trying to sell this product, I'm just trying to make more people aware of something that may add a touch more detail and realism to their games. Whether or not people want more detail and realism in their games or not is another matter.

Thanks,

I've seen an excel spreadsheet that is a weather generator for the Silver Marches. I *think* it's available in the electronic aids area.

I use Weathermaster myself, and other than a minor issue in moving the software license from a crashed hard drive to another, I have nothing but good things to say about it.

I especially liked being able to import my own maps, customize latitude and longitude coordinates, and create reams of weather data for my specific campaign location.

A great product IMO.

I haven't actually tried to use it in conjunction with a map (even though I own Campaign Cartographer 2 I been too lazy to use it to map anything out on that grand a scale! :o ) I imagine it would be good see the weather changing as the PC's moved across the map from one climate to the next.
