Web page design....

Just wanted to throw a question out there for the masses.....

What is the going rate for the initial setup of a web page and what is reasonable for the monthly charge for general maintenance? The web site is small and will probably be updated once a week. They are bound and determined to pay me for it, but I don't have a clue what to charge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

All depends on who you go through... Some places make you pay by month, some by year...

Some designers charge by the hour, some by the page, some by the pix...

It is going to require a lot of research... But then I am an amateur web designer so I only pay for my domain name.

Some quick research shows that the going "bargain" rate for hosting alone is about $5 a month. Considering that you would be providing all of the work and webspace, including semi-frequent updates, a reasonable price to charge would be $100-150 for the entire year, if they would be willing to pay that in a lump sum or in a series of payments to help them avoid having to send you a 5 or 10 dollar check each month (that is kinda silly!)

If these aren't people that you want to give a friendly discout to, you could bump it up another $50 or so.
