Have been thinking about getting my own domain, and I've seen several threads on here about what to use and what not to use. I did a search on web hosting and saw a couple of "ratings" sites. One of them had ipwerweb.com listed as the best. Has anyone had any dealings with them, and if so, what was your opinion? Does anyone else have a better recommendation???

I've used DreamHost for years (http://www.dreamhost.com/), and they're great. They offer a lot of hosting for not too much money ($10/month gets you quite a bit), and back it up with good tech support and very good uptime.

I've been using jatol.com for over a year and it has been nothing but fantastic. $30 a year for everything I need. I host both erikdewey.com and secondrat.com there and have never had a problem.

findmyhosting.com is a site that rates hosting sites.

http://Arivixe.com is what I ended up going with, and I've been pretty happy thus far. I think it's a one-man operation, but he's pretty sharp. It's top-rated in the really cheap category ($3/ mo. for 50 MB storage, 1000 MB bandwidth, unlimited emails, etc. -- for a buck more, they'll quadruple things). The control panel for settings is really easy to use, too, and they use Fantastico installer for several CMS, forums, blogs, etc. (which was nice when I was figuring out what I wanted to do with my site).

If you do go with Arvixe, I'd appreciate it if you'd put me (Mercule) down as a referrer. They've got an incentive program (I'd get about a buck and a half, but that's something).
