Website Hosting Services

Greetings Gang,

Looking for a good website hosting service with plenty of storage (100 Megs +), reasonable data flow and easy upload/maintainence. Getting ready to rebuild my campaign website from the ground up...

I don't mind paying reasonable fees ($10-15 per month).

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

I use cihost.com for my site. $14/month will get you 1000 MB of storage on their shared UNIX plan (the plan I use). They often run specials, currently one of which is 5000 MB for $20/month.

I haven't heard of CI Hosting but from looking at their website, everything looks good..and obviously Aeolius is happy with the company and their service which is very important.

The only thing I noticed was that the domain name registration fee is not included in the price, but that should not be very expensive ($10-$30 per year on average).

The unlimited bandwidth from CI Hosting is a very nice feature of their product as well. Sometimes you will find cheaper hosting services but if you're not careful, they will slam you on bandwidth charges.

Something else you may want to consider is how easy it is to build the website yourself unless you plan on having that done for you. Aeolius should be able to attest to this aspect of CI Hosting's service.

There are a few additional ones I could list, but I don't have personal experience with using them. If you'd like me to list them, then I'd be glad to do so.

But, when in doubt (with technological products/services) go with something someone else has used and been pleased with...

HTH,

Thanks...

Thanks for the responses thusfar...

I am barely web-enabled...just enough to get myself into trouble :p! One of my players is assisting me on putting the site together, so hopefully it will come out OK. I will check out cihost.com and see what it looks like.

I use phpwebhosting.com -- they have PHP/mySQL/PERL/etc. if you intend to do any scripting, unmetered bandwidth (not unlimited--though in the end it's the same) and 125 MB storage to start, with no fee to upgrade--for $10/mo. I've never had uptime problems with them (they're up, I'd guess, 99.8% of the time, or down a max of an hour a month.)

My campaign website is at http://www.invirtuo.cc/mizana/ if you want to get a feel for their speed.

(EDIT: You can also get a feel, of course, for which parts of the campaign site I haven't put up yet :))

www.1and1.com is having free hosting for three years. A lot of people have given them a try and liked them. I would suggest registering your domain through godaddy.com for 9/year and you are set.

Just be careful about plans that offer unlimited hosting. Most actually aren't, if you read the fine print. And if they are, ther are sometimes performance issues if there are too many sites hosted on a server dishing out too much bandwidth.

But if your site is small, if probably won't be an issue.

I use adthosting.com. I've had great success with them, and they fill my need of needing to host multiple domain names on the same account.

I've been using DotEasy for a couple of years now and I've been quite happy. They have a deal right now where, for $8/month, you get:

- 1000 MB Web Storage
- 20 GB Data Transfer
- 100 POP/Web Email Accounts
- 10 MB Email Storage Per Account
- Email Aliases/Forwarding
- Email Autoresponders
- 10 Sub-domains
- Multiple FTP accounts
- Website Statistics
- Web-based File Manager
- Web-based Control Panel
(and more which I didn't paste from the Website :))

They have other packages as well.

Actually, if you're looking to be thrifty about it, I believe DotEasy hosts your web space for free (but offers less extras) if you register your domain through them.
