Website Hosting Services

I'll say this only because it was brought up on a post. Do NOT have your hosting company register your domain for you. If they mismanage it, you'll lose the domain. Happened to me...my main domain I used to operate from is still being squatted almost two years later.

Actually, if you're looking to be thrifty about it, I believe DotEasy hosts your web space for free (but offers less extras) if you register your domain through them.

They do, but you only get 20 MB of web space with 1 GB of bandwidth with the free option. Old One was asking about 100+ MB.

Their free service is good, though. I used it for awhile until 1 GB of bandwidth was far too little (I end up using at least two to three times that in a given month, sometimes more).

Go to www.webhostingtalk.com before signing up with anyone. You'll find all the horror stories and high praise you need to make an informed decision. Web hosts, resellers, and customers are who makes up the board, so you'll hear from all sides of the industry.

Many thanks...

Thanks all!

Appreciate all the recommendations and the review site...looks like I have my work cut out for me this weekend ;)!

I've been using http://www.hostway.com and http://www.pmachinehosting.com

hostway has a fatter pipe, but they offer fewer overall amenities. pmachinehosting offers several MySQL dbs for your scripting pleasure at a decent price. You may also want to try their pmachine software. It's basically a type of blogging software, but it also makes a greaat web publishing suite... if you don't mind learning a bit of css and php.

Good Luck...

www.1and1.com is having free hosting for three years. A lot of people have given them a try and liked them. I would suggest registering your domain through godaddy.com for 9/year and you are set.

Be careful with 1and1 (and there is another thread about registering your domain through your ISP). In most cases, ISP's are pretty cool about this. However, sometimes, when you get really cheap domain registrations through your ISP, they lock you in and make it next to impossible to move them (part of the reason why they are so inexpensive).
1and1 had this huge deal where you could sign up for something like 3 years for free and they said that they were doing it this way instead of spending the money on marketing...well that free promo is done and guess what? Any high-tech mag now how 10 page spreads about their services...hmm, marketing dollars at work? And they have that cheap domain registration too...just a word to the wise...be careful.

I saw someone else on this thread posted about uplinkearth...I use 'em and love 'em. Good value for the $$$ if you ask me, good support, excelent service and a lot of other "hidden" value through other items (like user forums)...they have been GREAT!!!

O yeah, 1and1's Domain Registration is a scam. It's really they are buying the domain for you. If you want to take your domain somewhere else you need to pay them to transfer it. I use godaddy.com..a good, cheap domain registration website. All 1and1 does for me is keep my website and they will host my wdwfood.com e-mail addresses.
