Weekend Movie sales

... people don't want to sit through 15 minutes of ads before the movie starts ...

Personally, at least 1/4 of the reason that I go to most movies is to see the preview. I freakin' LOVE movie trailers!

What really gets me is the commercials BEFORE the previews. I mean, I like pop and all... but I don't want to see a Fanta commercial before I watch my movie. I enjoy cars and like driving, but don't need a Honda commercial before my film. I think candy is keen, but do not want to see an ad for caramel kisses.

If I want commercials, I'll just find something on TV. Previews ain't so bad. It's the bloody commercials stuck in there. And what's the point of spending $8 when a few months later, I can spend about twice that and get the DVD when it comes out? That and most movies don't appeal to me or I spent the budget elsewhere ::cough::Star Wars::cough::

Wow. I was hoping Serenity would have lasted longer than that in the top 10. Oh well.

That doesn't suprise me considering how confusing the movie was to people, such as myself, that didn't watch Firefly. Boxofficemojo.com was brutal to it: "Despite a supposedly dedicated fan base, the $39 million space western has performed like a below average genre picture." Ouch.

This has definately been a down year for movies. I guess putting movies out on video 3 to 4 months after the movie is in theaters is taking it's toll on movie goers and going to the movies. They should redo that and go back to at least 6 months to even 8 or 9, but that'll never happen.

I don't know if that would make a difference. Its almost like they are using the movie theater just as advertisment for DVD sales. I'm curious how much profit is in the DVD versus the theater. I use netflix, and if a movie takes too long to get to DVD it drops down my list. Since my lists is over 200 and growing, I'll probably end up never seeing them.

This year is the year of sucky movies.

Serenity is out of the top 10 after only 3 weeks? Brutal.

Although I liked Serenity, I wasn't expecting that it would make a lot of money. The movie seems to be primarily aimed at fans of Firefly, and unless you've seen the show and are familiar with the setting and characters, you won't get the full enjoyment possible from it. There's also the fact that although Firefly has a very vocal fan base, it isn't a very large fanbase (particularly when compared to sci-fi juggernauts like Star Wars or Star Trek).
