Weird coincidence in the new Orc books

I sense a conspiracy. Herein is the review of Heroes of High Favor: Half-Orcs from BadAxe games by Sigil:

Chapter five (mislabelled as chapter four on the page headers) is a short summary with some tips on how to role-play a "classic" half-orc (or classic barbarian).

And now the review of Wrath and Rage (a book on Half-Orcs) from Green Ronin by Gamewyrd:

After chapter four comes chapter four. What? Ooops. A small typo with big font but at least the title of the pages in chapter five get it right and use "Chapter Five: The Gods & Their Servants".

Orcish math? Gremlin in the works? Cheap publicity move?

You be the judge.

In case you hadn't noticed, I posted a review of both your books. Just an FYI.

Heh... I have a 6th sense for Bad Axe around here. I pretty much notice everything. ;)

Of course that could be because I spend too much time here. It is really interfering with my work. Even as we speak, I should be working on ELVES... Ahem.

But yes, I did see them, they are both much appreciated! I was surprised that your rating went down from Dwarves to Half-Orcs. It seems like Half-Orcs got a shrug and an, "Ehh..." from you, which is unexpected. I was prepared for people to either love it or hate it. I definitely took some stylistic risks with it (lots of comments on the illustration style, for example).

So on the one hand I got a nice score from a reviewer who doesn't even like half-orcs (I won him over-- great!) But I failed to inspire you. :(

Just one more piece of evidence that there really is no pleasing all of the people all of the time.

Doesn't stop me from trying, of course. :)

Ya, you need to go work on Elves. We want our Elves!! :D

I read the review from from the half orc hater. For me, it was good material, it just didn't make me feel excited about creating such a character. Your Dwarf book did that. I commented on the art, which I have noticed in a lot of reviews too.

My big question is who have you been bribing to get so many reviews? ;) Eleven reviews on the Dwarf book, Six reviews on the half orc book. That's a lot of reviews, especially since your new to the d20 scene. It does say something that so many people want to voice an opinion (most favorible) about your books.

So, inspire me with your elf book, makew that your number one goal. Then send me it for free, and we'll call it even. :D

Reminds me of a Bunnies and Burrows incident: "There are one... two... three... AHHHH! THREE OF THEM! THREEEEE! Run away! Run awayyyyyyy!"

I managed to find a copy of the half-orc book, but the game store owner was dead certain that the dwarf one wasn't out yet. *sigh* I hate dealing with people sometimes. :p

Well, it's no great mystery. I got a lot of reviews on Dwarves because I sent out a lot of review copies to other ENworlders.

I gave some to folks who had supported my Story Hour for a while (without which support I would never have started writing again, let alone publishing).

I also got 2 or 3 reviews from people who got free copies of Dwarves at the last ENworld Game Day at Games Plus.

I am sad to say I will not have Elves ready in time for the next one, which is in just a few weeks. However I am quite inspired with this book, churning out WAY more material than I probably should. I may have to bump this baby up to 80 pages or so to squeeze it all in. I am getting more enthusiastic help from other ENworlders and hope that this trend will continue with Halflings and Gnomes.

Anyway, back to the reviews, they are fairly small books with a tight focus and an established "scheme" regarding content and layout, pretty easy to review I would guess. I am always happy to see more reviews here at ENworld and elsewhere. It may sound goofy but nothing pleases me more than hearing about someone who is pleased with my design work, especially ENworld folks (who tend to be a cut above the throng, in my experience).
