Weird edit errors; is there a length limit?

When editing this post (it's a Gameday sign-up thread, so I'm editing the first post to reflect registrations), I'll get two errors that prevent the changes from taking (paraphrased):

1. "Please enter a subject"
2. "Your post is too short; make it at least 3 characters" Irony!

I trimmed down the overall size of the post a bit and now things seem to be okay. Is there a length limit I was hitting? If so, the error should indicate that.

I have a feeling it's a post size issue. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the upgrade fixes it. That, and split the sign-up post into smaller chunks in future.
