WFRP/40K games shut down by GW [merged]

Several of these games were awesome - the problem with them was that they didn't require constantly buying new miniatures to stay current/competitive. When that happens, GW gives a game the axe.
To be fair, a game that "doesn't require constantly buying new miniatures to stay current/competitive" isn't a game that keeps selling unless it has an appeal to a huge number of people. A large portion of those interested in the game buy it and keep playing with what they have. Why continue to put out new releases for a game if sales are low?

Add Man O War (GW's best game evah) to the casulty list.
And the specialist games Dragonbait lists are pretty much on life support (mainly because GW themselves knifed them in the gut,not due to the market)-not getting anything like proper support, books or models.
This is why I dont play any more GW games (well that, the cost, and the lack of design quality in the rules themselves)

AFAIK Bryan Ansell has always hated RPGs, he seems to have some kind of vendetta against them. Ever since he took over GW from Jackson/Livingstone and shut down White Dwarf as an RPG mag, GW have been roleplaying's Heart of Darkness.
(My POV may be totally out of date. I'm still burned by the demise of White Dwarf back in the '80s!)

Unless I'm mistaken Bryan Ansell completely severed all ties with GW 10-15 years ago. (apparently he sold all his shares and used the proceeds to start Wargames Foundry)

On a related note, I stopped by my FLGS to kill some time last night and discovered that they have four copies of Dark Heresy on the shelf, as well as four copies of the GM's pack -- so if you're desperately looking to pick up a copy but can't find one at a sane price due to the announcement and 'sold out' status, let me know and I'll get you a number for the FLGS.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay lived long after its first two "deaths" and will continue to have a large fan following well after this blow. I expect Dark Heresy to also follow suit (even though it is only "a third" of a complete game).

I'm picking up everything I can for Dark Heresy. With WFRP also being discontinued I have to get everything I can afford for that game as well.
