What races are going to be playable? If it's just the humans/space marines, that's kind of disappointing... I mean, granted, there are a lot of races in WH40K which wouldn't make appropriate PCs (the Necrons and Tyranids both immediately spring to mind), but I wanna play me a Tau dammit!

I think it looks like you're only allowed to play human characters. Maybe they'll implement another sourcebook with rules for Tau characters.

I don't think you can even play a Space Marine with the first book - that comes later. Which is a bit surprising since that's what people will want to play.

At least I'd like to illuminate the dark future with the muzzle flash of my assault cannon

Pre-ordered.

And my group is glad you can't play Space Marines out the door. Honestly that doesn't seem like fun to me. Inquisitors and/or Rogue Traders seem like much better fodder for an RPG.

Agreed. Space Marines are a bit...out there, especially for a mixed group. Now, a team of Adeptus Astartes for monster-hunting (Chaos, Tyranids) would be pretty darn awesome, but they're basically combat monkeys, and it's a lot harder to have plots that don't involve mass carnage with them.

On the other hand, an inquisitorial retinue is a very good PC party, whether or not one of the PCs is the inquisitor. It allows for everyone to have a specialty, from the combat monster to the hacker to the social person to the nuker. A really good example of an inquisitorial retinue is found in the Ravenor books (probably also Eisenhorn, but I haven't read that in a while).

This looks interesting. I might buy the book just for the fluff if I stumble upon it.

Just one question for WH40K people, aren't the Imperial Guard normally called the Anvil of the Empire and not as the Hammer of the Empire as like in the Guardsman career path preview? I thought the Space Marines are the metaphorical hammer while the countless numbers of the guard form the anvil.

Uhh, this looks interesting. I've been hoping to see some of the Warhammer 40,000 roleplaying stuff for some time and it looks nice :)
