Whamageddon (Last) Christmas

I’m far from being the first to criticize the lyrics of that song. So much so that, as I pointed out, even its creator describes it as being one of the worst songs ever. Not sure why I’m being singled out here for expressing a common opinion.
I think for me at least, your first post on it was a bit ambiguous as to whether attacking the song or the cause or both. I think attacking the song is fine, but the cause less so as such? Can discuss whether there may have been other causes that should have warranted support as well, but I think it was a good cause.
The lyrics do get a bit odd / condescending(?) at times, but I do enjoy the original over all, the tune and performers make it work. However, how much the performers make it work is highlighted by the subsequent versions, all pretty rubbish to me - same lyrics, but I find the performances painful.

I don’t think it’s churlish to criticize the song’s awful lyrics just because it was used to raise a lot of money for charity. “It was for a good cause so you can’t criticize it.” Really?
It "really?" did not come across as a lyrical criticism. The word "lyrics" did not even feature in your post. It's only now it's suddenly all about the lyrics. But, eh, whatever. I know what you'll reply, and what I'll say, and what you'll say, so let's just skip the tedious inevitability of the rest of the conversation and get back to talking about Whamageddon.

It's Christmas Eve. Who are the survivors? Not me, I was a parricide.

Next Christmas, I think this game could benefit from a sidecar: Reverse Whamageddon. Tilts the scales Tips the scales/tilts the field towards those who are out and about more than others. You could even have an updatable poll with a list of hoary hits that could pump up your points.

Edit: fixed a mixed metaphor...

No, it’s not “suddenly” all about the lyrics. It was only ever about the lyrics. I specifically was commenting on what the song was “about” – e.g. its subject matter, aka its lyrics.

I survived! Only heard covers.
