campaign settings and adventure paths, I personally think that wotc can do anything else better than 3rd parties.

I don't know, I think one can do better writing stand alone adventures. Some of the WotC adventures have been better than others and there has always been a place for well-written 3PP adventures (Freeport being a prime example.)

When it comes to game rules, monster manuals, etc., it just depends. WotC has published some losers in its time, and 3PP have come up with winners. Overall I might agree though.

What I'd like to see is kinda hard to explain, but it would be something that brought 4E a little bit back towards D&D-as-I-like-it. Less garish, less emphasis on "Flash! Bang!", less "you are your role in combat."

The "4E with a 1E feel" discussions in other threads touch on some of this. But you'd have to really do some heavy-duty refactoring -- particularly of the races and classes.

Features of the Encounter

This is a list of perhaps 100 small features to add to the encounter that makes spice. For instance:

A magic circle in blood is painted on the floor. It grants those inside of it a +2 to damage.

Great glowing runes are inscribed on one wall of the cavern. If someone takes the time to read them out loud (probably requiring an Arcana check) then it weakens the undead.
In addition, some fantastic terrain such as what's in the DMG would be very nice.

En Route Encounters

These are those "You're traveling along and x happens" type of small encounters. Roleplaying, mysterious/creepy, and a few combat encounters. For different environments, such as typical overland travel, city/town, and by sea.

There were some books of this kind released for 3e. But I would still like to see some more.
