What anime and manga have influenced your gaming experience.

Funny you mention it Oni. I figured maybe this time around, I'd get some artists, start my own American Anime stuff and write a story based on the Irregulars of Hollowfaust. Course I'd have to change a lot. :p But hey city of the living dead! ;) Can't go wrong there! ;)

I agree with Harlock. Mostly I can't see anime and D&D ever really crossing paths, although I can see some Vampire Hunter D in a Ravenloft campaign (anybody still play that?).

I had a character in a MUD who was based visually on Vampire Hunter D. His name was Harlock (so originial, but hey, it was a small MUD of 2500 or so) and inspired by this picture:

As far as Ravenloft goes... I dunno, I only played through I6 in 7th grade and haven't batted an eye since...

What's funny is that in a D&D game I am a player in I have sort of taken on this look rather unintentionally based upon items the DM gives out. I have ended up with a sombrero, cloak, mask, and a rapier of shadow based magic. Rather interesting and I am unsure if Reiella knew of my poast character at all. Rei, care to comment?

This is a bad combination. I read the Black Company series by Glen Cook and watched the Berserk anime. Mercs on the mind there I tell ya.

Escaflowne has had some small parts. I've used the smaller mechs from d20 Mecha Compendium in my SL game. Worked out pretty well for the most part. One of the main reasons I'm dying to see Doom Striders from Bastion.

Heroic Legend of Arslan and Lodoss War have also seen some parts in my campaign, but hey, if they don't match d20 in numerous ways, we're thinking of different animes here.

Some other elements, like character design and attitude from everything ranging from Ninja Scroll (both good and bad guys), as well as Fist of the North Star for Monks and the alternative PC class, Martial Ar:):):):), have also shown up.

I'm kinda surprised at how many people think Lodoss War is somehow a good anime. It's tedious, full of cliched and wooden characters, suffers from a confusing plot (as often happens when condensing lots of manga issues into a few anime episodes), and the animation isn't even that good.

I'll go for Slayers all the way, with Ninja Scroll, Mononoke, and Rouroni Kenshin providing plotlines. Slayers may be a parody of the genre, but it's entertaining, and has a huge sense of fun.

Everything I know about anime and manga comes from the following sources:

Akira
Project A-Ko
Fist of the North Star
Kiki's Delivery Service
Neighborhood Totoro
Vampire Hunter D
LA Blue Girl

Because of this, I will avoid all such entertainments in the future...

[Oops! Forgot Princess Mononoke, but the response stays the same]

Slayers slayers slayers, all the way.

I mean sure, your PC's can't (probably) cast dragonslave or gigaslave, but it really helps you appreciate why perhaps the average hero needs to be careful.

And I'd love to run a "those who hunt elves" game.

Anime has influenced my Forgotten Realms campaign. For example:

Alustriel goes through a transformation sequence into a highly-stylized schoolgirl outfit before she begins a fight.

Drizzt is a nerdy teenage boy who is inexplicably surrounded by adoring women.

Elminster is a 50-foot-tall bipedal robot.

The Simbul is a cat-girl.

Evard's black tentacles is the #1 fear among females of the Relams.

Wooden and bamboo swords do just as much damage as steel ones.

I make the male PCs roll fortitude saves against nosebleeds when they see a nymph or succubus.

Called shots: Whenever the player performs an action in combat, his character shouts out what he's doing in-game. Such as the mage shouting "Fireball!" and then throwing a fireball, or the fighter shouting "Five-foot step followed by full-attack while employing my dodge feat against Ogre #2!"

The more delicate and effeminate a man is, the more lethal he is in combat. Level 20 barbarians are as androgynous as Haldir from the Lord of the Rings movies.

(Note, do not take any part of this post seriously. Dark Jezter just likes to joke about the cliches that are present in so many animes)
