What Are The Best Niche Monsters?

By Niche, I mean a certain type of combat. Say, swordfighting, or air attack, and so forth. For example, I thought that a maximized 30HD Nimblewright from MM2 at CR11 was a great value for it's CR, especially considering it's immunities as a construct and death-wielding rapiers (12-20 crit range @ 2d6). Add on PC fighter / tempest classes or a paragon template for uber-goodness.

My personal favorite niche monsters are the Holy Troika of Enraging Players: black puddings, disenchanters and rust monsters.

Demiurge out.

I worked up some killer nimblewrights for my campaign- although I tacked on class levels (one was a weapon master for even better threat range).

My question is, what do you mean by 'best' niche monster? Most effective, most overpowered for the CR, generally coolest...?

For creepy, I really like the crawling head and the caller in darkness.

I suppose an amalgam of everything you said :) When I said niche, I meant the best performance and value wise at a 'niche' of combat, which makes it very difficult to beat in its own environment.
