What are the canonical texts for the githyanki?

I've always thought githyanki & githzerai were cool, but I've gotten even more interested in them since learning that they were invented by Charles Stross, IMHO one of the most important SF writers to come along in the past decade. (Here's an interview with him about how they came out of a campaign he was DMing in).

If I wanted to read everything there was about the githyanki, what would be on the list? I know they're in the 1E Fiend Folio and the 2E, 3E, and 3.5 Monster Manuals; and I'd love to get a look at their original appearance in White Dwarf. What else?

I also think githyanki are cool.

One of my favorite issues of Dungeon magazine is #100. You may want to get a copy of that if you don't already have it. It has a ton of information on githyanki!

One of the locations I did in Vortex of Madness is a rebel Githyanki fortress, led by someone claiming to be Gith reborn. When I was given that assignment (which was originally supposed to be called Planar Sites), I knew right away I wanted to do something with Githyanki.

IIRC, there's also a Githyanki adventure in the old Tales of the Outer Planes book. And then Dungeon and Dragon did that big Incursion event last year.

They did an excellent job on both of those issues. I'd like to see big crossovers along those lines about once a year.

EDIT: Also check The Illithiad by Bruce Cordell. Includes information on the gith and is an excellent book.

The PS Guide to the Astral Plane as well as the Planes of Chaos Boxed Set have the most detailed information, iirc.

Lots of cool stuff to check out - this shopping list is going to make for a happy holiday season for my FLGS :)

Chris, did you do Vortex of Madness in the early days of the SRD before Githyanki became PI, or did you get special permission to use 'em, or did you refer to 'em obliquely without actually using their PI name?
