D&D 5E (2024) What are the chances they will fix the index in the new books?

Probably very high - they're well aware of the issues people have with the 2014 indices, so I'm sure they'll make sure to do these right.

I may, of course, be forced to eat those words.

Pet peeve is running into something like "Attack of Opportunity.... See Opportunity Attack"

There's probably a good reason, just from a non-editor perspective it seems that simply putting the page number there is less ink lol.

In order to keep with the backwards-compatible idea, they need to make the new ones just as random.

Yeah, I'm not an editor but I imagine "Attack of Opportunity, page 234" would have been easier

Well, the book is being significantly reorganized, so they couldn't keep the old one.

Or spell description sorted by spell level, then by alphabet.

...
