My memory of it is a bit vague (not a good sign for the book) so I can't say for certain what about it made me feel meh.As a GenXer who never did this book in school, I picked it up to see what this classic was like. I must admit that I don't always react well to books with privileged protagonists or abusive ones. And this book seems to fit this category. For example, sometimes I find the class stereotypes in Wind in the Willows extremely annoying and Austin books pointless.It is not as if I don't find some with these themes good: coming of age (Looking for Alibrandi, Girl Interrupted), self destructive (Trainspotting) and dystopian teen culture (Clockwork Orange).</blockquote>
