What are your favorite weapons?

I don't have a single weapon I tend to favour over any other (well, maybe the club), but most of my characters tend to have a weapon that 'feels right' for them. With the last three characters, it's been heavy flail, longbow & quarterstaff, and glaive.

"I like swords." (ironic given my avatar, no?)

But wherever possible my characters tend to use longswords or greatswords. Usually, I have them pack a ranged weapon as well; if the character gets martial weapons, then I go longbow, if not I pack a crossbow. If I'm playing a wizard, then a staff goes along with crossbow.

I'm big lover of two weapon and polearm style fighting, my favorite styles tend to be the following:

Bastard Sword & either a Short Sword, Pick or Axe in the other hand.
Dual Short Swords
Glaive
Spear - short, but heavy-bladed.

I'm also a big fan of the playing the horseman of the steppes armed with a composite shortbow, dual yataghans (a cool s-curved sword from Turkey) and all the throwing knives I can carry.

Cheers!

My favorite weapons from the PHB are the Falchion and the Dire Flail. I like the falchion because it seems very arabian-esque. A good portion of the characters I create that use it have a very good conscience and respect for nobility. The Dire Flail is my character second weapon of choice as they learn that their Falchion does not have much affect on undead.

I'm a big fan of scythes and flails, for three reasons.
1. Not too many people use them; everyone's too keen on swords.
2. They're both (in the flail's case, distantly) descended from farming equipment.
3. They look completely awesome.

And it goes without saying that scythes and black cloaks just go together. Know what I mean?

Demiurge out.

I really like the handaxe, I mean you got this little weapon that look only good for choping pieces of wood, but your cleaving peoples heads with it.

Oh yeah, and the good old trusty dagger, I always include at least one one every character I make (whether I'm DM or Player). Good in a pinch when someone sunders your raging half-orc barbarian's greataxe of awesomeness, so you whip out your trusty non-magical dagger and it allows you to deal 10 points of pain without those pesky attacks of opportunity.

Zweihander, using the prestige class dedicated to their proper use in Swashbuckling Adventures. The 7th Sea version had illustrations of the stances, a very versatile weapon in the right hands.

Halberd, using the Pole FIghting feat from the Netbook of Feats. (I have seen one in use, and yes, the haft is a weapon in its own right.)

If using core D&D then the bastard sword, again the versatility.

And all my characters carry a light crossbow, so while it may not be my 'favorite' it sees the most use.

The Auld Grump

*EDIT* Does anyone know where to find the clip of a Swiss Vatican guard using a halberd? In one smooth move the guard brought the haft behind the fellows knees - tripping him, and the blade to his throat as he went down. Believe it or not those guys are still trained in how to use those things!
