What are your table rules?

No flips for you!
I was wondering what table rules are out there? A table rule is a rule that defines the PLAYERS' actions during the game. Such as no dicussion of other games during the session, snack break rules, etc.

Games are our time to blow off steam from work.

As such, the only "Table Rules" we have are these:

1) If the GM or a player says "FOcus, FOcus, FOcus", we get back to the game immediately

2) If someone says something rude or out of line, we grab Wombat's fedora and slap the person across the head

We don't really need any other rules that way :)

Every out of character pun requires a 10 cent payment to the group pun fund.

At one house we have a Darth Vader bank, so if someone says a pun we say "Pay the Sith Lord!" At another house we have a John Wetland (a former Texas Ranger baseball pitcher) cup that we use. So we say "Pay John Wetland!"

Not in order of importance!

1) No talking about other games/movies etc. Its okay when the DM is tied up withone person but when several players are involved its time to pay attention.

2) Its the Dm's house treat it with respect. Even more importantly treat the DM's wife's house with respect. She doesn't game but still puts up with a weekly group of bozos coming over. She often cleans up and makes tea for the Bozos so they had better clean up after themselves.

3) if you can't come or are going to be fairly late (15 minutes or more) You call or let the Dm know ahead. Its that simple.

4) Keep the noise down after 8-9pm. DM's wife and daughter trying to sleep.

5) If you smoke outside (which most players do) Throw your butts somewhere other than right in front of the door or parking spaces.

6) Dice rolling rules. Roll where someone can see them and if the dice falls off the surface more than 1 its a failure. I hate waiting 5 minutes for someone to roll a dice that keeps flying across the room.

7) Don't use up all the ice/tea without giving warning to the Dm he'll make more and gets pissy when he doesn't have something to drink. (Dm usually makes 2-3 gallons pregame to share)

8) The DM knows its "just a game" but if your there to Play. PLAY! Not Bs around and take forever to look up crap etc. be prepared. The Dm expects the players to make some effort to prepare for a session not spend all night deciding how to spend booty.

9) Respect is paramount between DM and players , Players and players. We are mostly friends first, gamers second. But just cause its a game doesn't mean respect goes out the door.

Sounds like a lot of nit picky rules but they are mostly common sense, which is not as common as one would think.

The only one I've ever had to even mention (outside of normal civilized behavior when you're at a friend's house) is "don't look up the spell/monster/magic item I just used against you while we're in the game."

Generally, no swearing or raunchy jokes, especially while the kids are still up.

And the DM likes twizzlers. Strawberry. ;)

Haven't generally have a big problem with quotes, but after one particularly annoying time that someone insisted on breaking into quoting a standup routine while I was in the middle of a dialog of sorts, it's become a rule when the DM says enough, it is enough.

I've really considered clamping down on the SW galaxies chat as well.

The only rule is that dice that fall off the table are rerolled. This isn't to prevent cheating, it's just to encourage people to friggin' not throw the dice towards the table edge. Apart from that, I've found that anarchy works pretty well. :D

after a very bad experience :o

no casting Delayed Blast Dr. Pepper on the battle map, minis, and character sheets.

one player shook up another's drink while he was out having a smoke break. when he came back. even tho we all knew what would happen, no one warned the smoker...and Blammmm....Dr. Pepper of Doom everywhere.

Umm... Not many, or at least none that we've ever had to really say. Maybe just, "Play nice. It's just a game."

We do however, try to keep out of game chatter to a minimum (with varyng degrees of success).

Well we only have rules about dice... any dice that falls off the table gets rolled again and if the dice is not firm (even if it's just a bit) it get's rolled again, we often play over weird surfaces so we need to make a rule about that...
