What "big names" in the gaming industry have you met?

I was going to claim none, but thinking back Iain Livingstone and Steve Jackson(UK) when Games Workshop was one shop in Hammersmith and they still served on the counter, John Kovalic at a sigining session.

Being in the UK and not having been to any major cons for a while limits it a bit.

While at GameStorm, I had the lucky opportunity to play in a D&D game ran by Peter Adkison for a group of congoers in his hotel suite. We created 4th level characters, then played in this puzzle-solving scenario which pitted us against monsters one-on-one as part of the puzzle-solving.

In DragonFlight, Jonathan Tweet ran the Living Greyhawk adventure for our group a couple of months after 3e premiered. My halfling cleric saved the party from being wasted by raging barbarian orcs with a well-timed calm emotions. We all laughed when it came time to rate the judge on rule knowledge. He signed by book.

I had a great luxury of meeting and spending time with John Wick, drinking at the Safehouse and discussing L5R... The next day, he offered to give me a DDT, right there on the concrete at Gencon

Having only been to GenCon 2002, my list is shorter than most. In addition, one of the key things I got done at that convention was getting books signed, so I'll list who signed what:

Tracy and Laura Hickman (worked with Tracy over e-mail before this; got I6 Ravenloft signed by both and DL1 Dragons of Despair, Annotated DRAGONLANCE Chronicles, and four copies of Dragons of a Vanished Moon signed by Tracy)
Margaret Weis (who also signed the Annotated Chronicles and DoaVM)
Stan! (DRAGONLANCE Bestiary, DRAGONLANCE Classics 15th Anniversary Edition)
Miranda Horner (DLC15A)
R. A. Salvatore (Vector Prime)
Troy Denning (Star By Star)
Bill Slavicsek (STAR WARS Roleplaying Game Revised Core Rulebook)
Kevin McCann (sp?), from whom I bought Vecna: Hand of the Revenant. Has Vol. 2 ever come out?
John W. Mangrum (who not only signed my RAVENLOFT Campaign Setting, Limited Edition but treated me to dinner at Major Goolsby's. Thanks, John; if we ever both make it to a convention again, I'll repay the favor)

I also saw Gygax and Arneson at a booth, and may have unknowingly crossed paths with Steve Long--sadly enough, HERO wouldn't suck me back in for another nine months. :)

Matthew L. Martin

I've bumped into a few "names", but the most fun one was having Keith Baker recognize me at the WotC booth because of my handle. Man's got a far better memory than me. :)
