What books do I need to start a Scarred Lands campaign?

SL books

Perhaps the heart of a Scarred Lands campaign is found in three books: Relics and Rituals, Creature Collection Revised (supposed to see release this month), and Scarred Lands Campaign Setting: Ghelspad.

these in my mind must come first. if you want a 4th then go for the CC II (you can never have too many monsters) but before you buy anything look through the Ghelspad book and decide where you want to run your game. if you pick a location like Mithrael or Hollowfaust, then you will want that book. If you pick somthing like Albadia or Darakeene then the Ghelspad book will be of more use. also the SL DM's screen and the wilderness encounters books are not nessicary to atart your game. I have been running my SL (Darakeene) game for 2 months now and I don't have either one (yet), start wih the stuff above and grow your collection as you can (for me right now cost is a barrier)

btw Mike thanks for dropping in! I miss you guys!

Hey there, Nightfall! Yes, it's been a while, no?

We're still around, maybe just not as visible as in the past -- though we're gearing up for lots of activity in 2003. (Look for a pretty exciting announcement to come around next Monday . . . . :D )

The counters, of course, are out there.

FDP is getting together this weekend for a Big Pow-wow, a War Council, a Meeting to End All Meetings (and some gaming, of course!). We even considered having Claudio make it up here on his bicycle, but that would have meant scheduling the meeting in, like, October. (Besides, he thought it was cold during GenCon back in August, so who knows how he would survive in our current weather.) I'm sure James will disseminate the results of our meeting next week.

I guess that I just finally decided to post in one of these Scarred Lands threads -- after seeing so many of them lately, I could no longer resist. ;) Still, you do a most fine job of preaching The Word. I do agree that one should still get the screen eventually, as the adventures make for excellent starting points in a Scarred Lands campaign (perhaps also in conjunction with the Serpent Amphora series), and the screen itself is really quite useful.

There ya go!

Take care,
Mike

Relics and Rituals is my least used Scarred Lands book.

Most used is the Creature Collection followed by the Setting Hardback.

Other stuff I've made use of from time to time. Perhaps since everyone has mentioned R&R I should take a second look.

Thank you Mike for the lovely insights! :) I'm sure good ole James will ensure what ever your Warparty does, there will be some good ole ruckus from the FDP guys. (Which is just how I like it! :) ) Can't wait for the announcement thought. It should be fun.

Yeah I do. Well soon you might see my name on a SL product. Well specifically, the first Player's Guide for Wizards, Bards and Sorcerers. (I did spells! :D Well a few of them. Others did as well.) In any case it's a fun life being me. Most of the time. Btw meet my new Scribe! :) San is a good man and I'm think he's nearly as good as I am. Course he's still a little rough around the edges but that will pass.

Thank you all for your extremely helpful posts :) Guess I can go out and check my local gamestore now.

Sure thing Geron. If you need more help, greater Scarred Lands insight, or just general "What the heck is this?!" I'll be happy to do what I can. Or San will.

we aim to please

Nightfall has the advantage over me of being tapped in closer to the source for longer then me. but youth and vitality will never triumph over old age and trechery. (*LOL* I only say that because I have been playng D&D about a decade longer :p )

but he is right, if you have any questions we will all try our best to help ;)
