What can help against Dispel Magic Greater?

Alright, probably a question already asked 1000 times and probably not the smartest question either but here goes :)

Any ideas on what one can do to augment the resistance to GDM? We prepare for battle, buff ourselves and almost every fight there is a GDM that for some reason almost always seems to work (except for the low level spells...those don't get dispelled much...dm intervention anyone? lol).

Would a ring of counterspell with a GDM work for example? (if so, how much? lol).

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Al

Hold on, you mean that purchasing a Ring of Greater dispel magic is only 4K? If thats a fact, then geez, i feel stupid that my 17th level cleric doesn't have one already setup!

Wating for a confirmation that we are on the same page on this price thing :)

No, you buy a ring of counterspells and put a GDM in it. That will protect you from one targeted greater dispel magic (but not dispel magic). The ring is 4,000 gp. You can get two, or three with that hand-thingy, but then you'd have no more ring slots.

WEll, that answers that question (I actually have 1 free ring spot right now..so its cool). I'm alot less afraid of Dispel Magic than DM Greater so I don't mind.

Also answers the question i had in my mind if spell turning would affect a dispel magic :)

Thank you to all of you for the quick replies!

Last combat we had five of them thrown back and forth ... course it rather sucks when the PCs have 10-12 spells up and the monsters have static effects and 1-3 spells on them. Sure you can catch the monsters with it, but most of their stuff isn't spells, where-as PCs seriously begin to depend on paradigm-changing spells to stay functional (He's a Noble Salamander in a lake of fire, we're PCs with Fire Resistance. He's a flying Dragon, we're PCs with Fly. )

The cleric actually used her 7th level slot to summon an Avoral to stand around and ready Dispel Magic every round to counter THEIR dispel magics ... where-upon we got hit with GDM.

That doesn't work: "Spell-like abilities cannot be used to counterspell, nor can they be counterspelled."

Yes, but one of the effects of dispel magic is to counterspell... that line applies only to using Fireball (Sp) to counter Fireball (the spell). It wouldn't be automatic, but it could potentially work even against GDM. (Although in reality the dispel check would probably fail.)
