What can Shrink Item Spell Shrink?

Shrink Item spell.

Can it shrink containers and the fluids inside?
Can it shrink a chest and all it contains?
Can it only shrink solids?
Can it only shrink a single item?
If it can only shrink a single item and it is cast on a container with other items, does it fail?

IMO it can shrink anything within the size limit, including a a chest full of gold, a puddle, or even a cloud of smoke (but not a magical effect like a Fog Cloud or a Cloudkill).

However, if you cast the spell on a chest and made it permanent, I wouldn't let it affect items unless they were in the chest when the spell was cast. For instance: if you cast the spell permanently on a chest full of gold, the coins shrink and expand along with the chest. But if you add one more coin to the chest, that coin was never subject to the magic, so it doesn't shrink. (The chest can't be shrunk unless all its contents are shrinkable.)

This is a tremendously useful spell, but it's not quite as flexible as a bag of holding or a portable hole.

Restoring Size

Does restoring size by throwing item against solid surface cause damage to item?

If you throw a glass vial on the ground does it break then expand?

expand then break?

or, just expand?

How about an alchemists fire?
