D&D 4E What chances are there for a 4e DARKSUN to be published?

Looking at the polls of game worlds, Darksun remains strong. So, at the pace of 1 a year, will Darksun be published 2010? 2011? Ever?

and if so, what age or should there be a third new age that takes the bit of good stuff from Age of Heroes and places it into the Original Boxed Set?

It seems to me that the attitude of Wizards is to keep the number of published settings to a minimum. I think this philosophy stems from the idea that TSR was brought down by having too many mutually exclusive published settings (see 'many buckets' theory). So, I'd say chances are slim to none.

I think it's a great time to do it however - Dark Sun is steeped in the exotic and would be a great showcase for the elegance of the new systems in 4e. Maybe we can convince them to do a one-off 96 pager, buy it like hotcakes and go from there. I firmly believe the setting deserves to live again.

WotC has said one new setting a year. They have not said how many years this will extend or be limited to.

They have also said psionics are coming.

Honestly, the two sound like a good marriage: Psionics in PHB3 (or whatever), psionic monsters in MM3 (or whatever) and a Dark Sun Campaign Setting the same year.

Whizbang,
well, I'd pay to see gnomes eaten by a so-ut! ;)

Dark Sun was awesome. However I'm not sure, now, how it will fit in with 4th ed, as 4th ed seems a bit too heroic in style/mechanic, where as Athas is very brutal.
Need to play 4th ed though to see how "nasty" the combat is in actual play though.

A major point would have to be about NOT wearing armour or wearing light armour in Dark Sun. Wearing plate mail, even if made from chitin etc = very dangerous due to the heat, and that's the way it should be. I kept my Dark SUn games brutal, to an extent, by that fact of Athasian life. Since folk's armour class isn't going to be so high, fights are nastier ;)

And it would be best to completely ignore ALL the rubbish with the time line after the first boxed set, sigh.

first, there are rumors that each campaign setting will have their own player's guide with its own base rules (potentially).

Also, the PHB 3 and MM3 being psionic is very likely. Which, tying that to a Dark Sun release makes alot mroe sense then a Eberron one. I can actually see Ebberon coming out late 2009, then Psionics in PHB 3 early 2010 and Dark Sun late 2010.

Dark Sun would work very well with the new rules. It is very heroic (brutal and dark yes, but the characters are strong and capable). You can easily unplug them from armor and they wouldn't need to be magic item dependant, so that means very little equipment.

They said books for most of the old settings were not likely, but they'd probably see support through the D&D Insider. Odds are they'll wait until they see how popular settings are before they make a decision on making a book.

Darksun needs to come out. Its big on the PoL stuff thats the kraze these days.

And heck it will be worth it just to see the Sorceror-King Paragon path! I mean granting lower level characters spells....:) Thats just wicked.

I'd be very surprised if psionics weren't in PHB2 and coinciding with the Eberron cs.

Surely Sorcerer-King would be an Epic Destiny?
