What class is Indiana Jones?

In D&D terms I would say you could do a pretty good model of Indy as an Akashic.
All skills as class skills, the ability to fight decently, a bardic knowledge like ability coupled with adding INT bonus twice to knowledge skills.

That's a cool class -where's it from?

Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed/Evolved.

The class has a flavor (getting insight by tuning on to the collective consciousness) that needs to be dropped to make an Indy, though.

Back in 2nd edition days, there was a kit in the Complete Book of Elves that seemed to be very specifically modeled after Indy, called the Collector. I played one for a little and had some fun with it.

Keith Baker once said that, to him, Indy would be a Bard/Extreme Explorer with no ranks in Perform. ;)

I am trying to get a solo Eberron game off the ground, and the PC is a Relic Hunter. I statted him as a Rogue with the Unearthed Arcana option of gaining Fighter bonus feats instead of sneak attack. He also has the Educated feat from Eberron Campaign Setting (all Knowledge skills are class skills, and has +1 to two Knowledge skills).

Between being a Rogue, a human and having Int 16, he has 12 maximized skills.

Expert / Exemplar

Indy's all about the skills. Throw in Exotic Weapon Prof: Whip and there you have it.
I don't know; he holds his own in most fights... gotta give him some fighting levels in addition to the expert levels.

I was looking through Complete Adventurer, but it's hard to find a good match because a lot of the ones that sound good on the surface (Dungeon Delver, for example) end up with too much magical ability since Indy has, essentially, none of that.
Indy in the mundane world would have no magic--since, y'know, nobody does--but Indy in a prototypical D&D might be a different matter entirely. It's pretty much the same deal as with figuring what class Aragorn is. Can't possibly be ranger, right? ;)
