What classes would Xena and Gabrielle be in D&D?

I fully support the Barbarian/Monk concept. She did go to the far East to train with a martial artist and learn inner strength... and there's no doubt she's got Evasion. Breaking the "traditional" alignment restrictions, I'd go Brb 14/Mnk 10(evasion and H2H ability). She's not immune to poisons, so a cap at Monk 10th makes sense. :)

Hm, what about that 'Chaotic Monk' (Battledancer? is that it?), from the DC1 (I believe) ? Would the other abilities they get mesh with Barbarian, and (more importantly) model Xena well?

Xena was using some very psionic-ish effects towards the end of the series.
Yeah, good point. Though I wonder if they could be maneouvres/stances from the Bo9S? Personally, I wouldn't have a clue, but some of the stuff sounds about right.

Also, AU/AE might work.

Joxer is has some bard levels. He has plently of ranks in Perform(Buffoonery). He could also play the lyre.

"Joxer The Mighty" is such a catchy song.

D&D isn't some metasystem that tries to provide a toolset for simulating characters from fantasy fiction. The ranger class isn't a good way to simulate Aragorn, nor is the bard class a good way to simulate Gabrielle. D&D is way more oriented towards spellcasting and supernatural powers than most fantasy heroes.

But if you're going to try, you're usually either going to have to allow for a wide margin of inaccuracy in translation, or limit your choices to a few classes. Out of eleven PHB base classes, ighter, rogue, and barbarian are the only who have no magical abilities whatsoever.

Go with Iron Heroes. Gabrielle is a thief of sorts, while Xena, with her endless supply of trick maneuvers, could easily be a woman-at-arms.

If you want a different system use Mutants and Masterminds. It can create virtually any character fairly well.

Xena at PL 10 would have a maxed out BAB and BDB, Around 5 points of Amazing Save (All), weapon (Ranged, Stun or Physical damage), the Sidekick Feat (Gabrielle) and 10 points of super-skill (Acrobatics). She's also maxed out several melee and ranged feat trees.

Gabrielle has PL 8 (Xena's Sidekick), the player has maxed out charisma but does a really poor job of playing it, lots of points in knowledge skills, and her BAB/BDB are poised at about 5-6.

Uhh, I'm pretty sure Ares wasn't Xena's dad since he was always trying to get it on with her :) I've never heard about her being born from a god, but I am only at the end of season 2, so I have four more to go. I'd put my vote for Gabrielle as a bard with no magic abilities and Xena as a fighter with a whole bunch of feats and some multi-classing. My favorite side character besides Ares is Callisto and I'd call her more of a straight fighter until she gains her immortality and divinity.
Yeah, compared to Xena Callisto definitely is a "straight fighter" ... :)

Sad but no doubt true because of the diversity and mixing of special abilities and attacks. Interestingly, there was a Hercules & Xena roleplaying game by West End Games, the very last thing they squeezed out before their "first death".

And, interestingly enough, it was pretty well done as far as mimicking the series' combats and maneuvers and such! And yes, all the main characters and villians from the first few seasons were statted out, too. Yes, I have this thing. It's on the collector's shelf...

I'll go you one better. I not only owned the game, I wrote and ran events for it at three different conventions. It was actually a lot of fun to play.
