Spoilers for Curse of Strahd.
I obviously did not run Curse of Strahd like Chris Perkins would've, but it's still a 10/10 campaign memory. We all talk about it often.
My Ireena was a bruxa - like a mix between a female vampire and a succubus. When Tatyana died all those years ago, she really died. The Dark Powers resurrected her and corrupted her soul. She "dies" every generation or so, and comes back a little more broken each time.
She is not a damsel in distress. She is a monster; a tragic one (kinda like how I ran Strahd himself). Both are just tools in the hands of the Dark Powers.
The party did their best to protect her, going through incredible lengths to keep her safe and comfy on the trip to Vallaki. They left her there, thinking she would be safe. But the town was not safe from her. Her psyche well and truly broken at this point, she began murdering the townsfolk.
When the party realized what was happening, the looks on their faces was absolutely worth it. What followed was an intense hunt, roleplaying, and combat (which when "Ireena" called out to Strahd to protect her, and he answered - just upped the ante).
