What d20 Purchases to you Regret?

Well I never regret buying a book because I will use something out of it.

But Relics & Rituals I&II have not seen me mine something from them yet.
My Dune RPG Book has only been glanced at once since I have no players for it.

its odd for tme to see relics and rituals on here so much, i dont love it but i have gotten some use out of it.
 

Interesting topic. Here are the list of games that I would not have bought.

Star Wars rpg. (as I have no one that wants to play it) :(
Sorcery and stream (FULL of useless Prcs and definetly NOT what I thought it would be)
 

The splatbooks -- in retrospect, there was too much good stuff coming out from other publishers to bother with them.

Ghostwalk -- Probably the biggest let down given the talent working on them.

Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil -- This module made me very, very Super-Dungeoned out.

Ravenloft Campaign Setting -- I lost interest in the setting and hoped that maybe the new edition would get it going again. Oh, well.

Maze of Zayene, Rappan Athuk -- The throwback modules just don't work for me anymore.
 

Things I Wasted My Money On:

Psionics Handbook. I hated the 3.0 psionics sytem, and got absolutely no use out of the book.

Relics & Rituals and the Creature Companion 1. I looked through them and saw some cool stuff I could throw into a campaign, but I never did.

The Splat Books: With the exception of Sword and Fist and Song and Silence they've gone unused - some of the stuff included is waaay to powerful for my tastes.

The Wheel of Time RPG: I'm a fan of the books, so this purchase was a no-brainer for me. I've played it once, and most likely won't again - it wasn't my group's thing and the lack of support didn't help either.

White Wolf's Ravenloft Campaign Setting: I was happy to see Ravenloft published, but after reading through it I realized I'd never use it.

I don't know why Relics and Rituals is getting bashed so much. I am playing a wizard currently and R&R I & II are my main arcane splattbooks, I use them more that T&B. I like most of my SL stuff. Even if I never use tehm in game, they are generally great reading.

I would say the same about Necromancer Game's adventures. I may never use some of them, but I love reading good adventures.

It's hard to say I really regret any purchases, I buy a lot of stuff and don't get to use all of it. One specific product I regret was the Player's Archive PDF. It seems to be largely the same sort of thing available in the internet for free.

Hero Builders guide
Offical Character Sheets
Dragonlords of Melnibone
A few of the AEG Mini-Modules

Thats probably all I actually regret buying. There is a lot more stuff I probably shouldn't have bought because I'll never use it, but it does make for fun/interesting reading.
 

Looking back, I'd say I fully regret:

* Strongholds & Dynasties by Mongoose - there's so much, I don't even know where to begin complaining so I won't bother.
* Psionics Handbook - I don't use psi in my campaigns, and frankly the book is weak compared to how I thought it would be. Oh well.
* Mythic Races by FFG - Poorly balanced and not very quality. FFG's later work rocks, but this one nearly made me put them on my "not interested anymore" list.
 

Things I probably shouldn't have bought:

Bastion Press' Alchemy and Herbalism - I bought it cheap at GenCon but I haven't read through it more than once. It might be good if I were running a wilderness campaign, but the rules for making new substances are a little too specific. I think they could have been covered with other existing skills and feats.

Mongoose Publishing's Quintessential Fighters - Far too little substance and flavorless rules for me.

Things I'm Glad I Bought

I'm glad I bought almost everything else, but particularly Necromancer Games' Tome of Horrors, Malhavoc Press' Requiem for a God, When the Sky Falls, Book of Hallowed Might, and the Book of Eldritch Might I, II, and III, and WotC's Forgotten Realms products (all of them).
 

I bought a few of Fast Forward's early products that ended up being worse than I would have thought. Rings of Power and the Demons & Devils Encyclopedias looked good to me on a skim-through, but when I got them and started looking more closely, I realized that these were broken products.

I think it's the Enclyclopedia of Demons & Devils II which has a CR9 demon that can summon 2d4(!) balors. After seeing that it became pretty obvious that the designers really weren't concerned with any kind of rules balance, so really the only value of the books is to mine it for ideas - not to use them in actual play.

Overall though, I'm very happy with my (far too many) d20 purchases. There are a whole lot of talented designers out there who just keep cranking out great stuff.
