What d20 Purchases to you Regret?

You know the original traveller was the same, I kid you not, those were the most confusing set of rules that I have ever seen!!!!

You might be a complete moron if you think that the original Traveller game was confusing or too complicated. (note the lack of smiley-face)

Now if you had said that Traveller: The New Era was over complicated garbage, I would agree with you.

Oh Let's see:

I regret the following purchases:

Dieties & Demigods - complete waste of money - I pre-ordered from Amazon, expecting a remake of the old Dieties & Demigods and instead I got the author's personal campaign pantheon with some norse and greek deities thrown in as a second thought.

Star Wars OCR - got it - never got a chance to play - and then found they re-did the book a few months later...

Rokugan - Played in 3 sessions of a Rokugan campaign.

Stuff I'm glad I didn't purchase:

Savage Species
Quintessential Anything
Any FFE product
Epic Level Handbook

Stuff that was hit-and-miss:

The splatbooks - only in light of the 3.5 release the release of Complete Fighter, as well as the upcoming release of Complete Divine. I'm fully expecting them to also release Complete Arcane, Complete Performer and Complete Stealth. The thing that makes me angry about this is the fact that some of the PrCs that got converted shouldn't have and vice versa. I mean - come on - the Deepwood Sniper from S&F? Sure it is probably unbalanced - but the concept of this PrC is more important. Instead, they do a conversion on the Knight Protector of the Great Kingdom... (Haven't we got enough - with the Purple Dragon Knight, Knight-Errant of Silverymoon, Knight of the Chalice, Knight of the Middle Circle, Thayan Knight?!?!)

Stuff I'm really glad I purchased: Races of Faerun - had everything that FRCS should have included. Any FR book, especially Silverymoon. We need more informatio on coinages, foods, commerce, etc. and less PrCs.

I regret buying Deities and Demigods. I also regret D&D 3.5....I didn't really like it at all, and am glad I didn't go off selling my 3e books....

Oh yes, and I regret buying Necropolis. I hate Gygax's writing too much to ever try and muddle my way through that. I thought my DM S'mon was heroic in a way, to continue to run it for us for several sessions before we all agreed that we wanted out of it.

Thanks. :)

Pity your PC didn't survive it, *sigh*

There are a few things in my life I'll regret, but buying a book will never be among them. There are books I have little use for, so I try to find them a home with someone who will use it. Most of the modern games I've bought like Spycraft and d20 Modern I've found homes with other peoples on the boards. Heck, even Mutants and MAsterminds and its many great books have found homes with others. I don't regret giving these books away to people who like and appriciate them.

Of the books I keep they are of a wide amount of quality. I may not have used them yet, but I'm not finished gaming either. A book that has dust on it now could in a few years inspire the campaign or a character I've been flirting with.

I feel basically the same way. I love books - even bad books can sometimes lead to good inspiration. The only time I've regretted buying a book was when I accidetally bought a book I already had. (My main problem these days is no time to look at any books, though I keep buying them. For me, cost isn't much of an issue - books don't cost that much in the grand scheme of things and there really aren't THAT many to buy to begin with - I guess I've only gotten a handful of the non-WotC books.) Oh, and the book I got an accidental double on - I just gave it to another gamer as a gift, so that really wasn't a regret either.

I regret getting the Psionics Book. Not so much that I didn't love it (I do) but because WOTC never supported it. Can someone tell me why Githyanki/Githzerai have shown up in the Psionics Handbook, Manual of the Planes, and the Monster Manual but WOTC never went back and gave Mind Flayers any innate Attack/Defense Modes except the obligatory Psionic Blast? No wonder the Gith overthrew them, as written their minds are WIDE open and the Githyanki get to Ego Whip every round without spending a single Psi Point.

Should never have bought Traveller T20. Only reason I bought it was because my gaming group decided to give it a shot. Looked good but after a few sessions they just wanted to steal some of the new rules and incorporate them into D&D. Lifeblood was the main rule. BAD IDEA!!! Constructs and Undead become the single most powerful creatures in the game.

As far as the splatbooks go I liked Sword & Fist. The rest were a waste of money. However, I am one of those people who MUST have the collection so I bought them all. Dumb me.

I liked the Scarred Lands setting and the monsters in the CCs but most players want Greyhawk or Forgotten Realms since they are already familiar with them. Haven't used it yet and probably never will. Thank god I bought them in the bundles so they weren't that expensive.

Never should have bothered with my Dragon subscription but I LOVE Dungeon magazine. I steal adventure ideas and mess with them all the time. Dragon is just a bunch of fluff and adspace. Honestly, did anyone really get anything out of the issue where they revisted a bunch of old campaign settings. There is no support for Kara-Tur anymore so why bother putting a 2 or 3 page article about the setting in the magazine. Ravenloft is also totally covered so why bother with covering it when you can find the same stuff in any of the books. Why bother with any of it at all?

You watch, as soon as the last Star Wars movie hits the screens they'll put out yet another. I refused to buy the newer edition because I never really found the first one broken.

its odd for tme to see relics and rituals on here so much, i dont love it but i have gotten some use out of it.

Ditto. Great spell ideas and a great variant ritual system.

At any rate, for recent takes on what I can't live without, see my sig for weekly updates!

I don't have any regrets since I have bought only a few d20 products. I am very selective about what I buy and read through any d20 product before I purchase it. Products that I would have regretted, if I had bought them, include just about any DND non core book published by WOTC including the splatbooks, Deities and Demigods, Manual of the Planes, Epic Level Handbook and Psionics Handbook, because I found them subpar material. On the other hand, I would have regretted buying the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, because I never would have used more than a couple of pages despite the quality of the product.

d20 products that I have that I own and really like
DND core rule books
Shaman's Handbook (Green Ronin)
Witch's Handbook (Green Ronin)
Mutants and Masterminds (Green Ronin)
Blood and Fist (RPG Objects)

d20 products that I got as gifts and in which I can at least find some good ideas
Unearthed Arcana (WOTC)
Swashbuckling Adventures (AEG)

d20 products that I will eventually buy
Psychic's Handbook (Green Ronin)
Martial Arts Mayhem (The Game Mechanics)

Products that I may buy at some time
Quintessential Druid (Mongoose)
Quintessential Rogue (Mongoose)
Spycraft (AEG): If I do, I will use d20 Modern classes instead of Spycraft classes

Products not yet released that I am interested in look at
Mutants and Masterminds Annual (Green Ronin)
Medieval Player's Handbook (Green Ronin)
Powers Corrupted (Louis Porter)

I'm the type that kind find something useful out of just about anything. However, had I to do it over again I would have passed on the following:

Savage Species
Path of Magic
Path of the Sword
D20 Modern
Urban Arcana

The first three I just don't use in my campaign. The last two, while interesting for me, don't draw a lot of interest with my players. Therefore, they just sit and collect dust.
