What Demonic Monsters?

Yeah, a player of mine has that book, so if you happen to know the name or page number I'd appreciate it!

A quasit or two is a pretty obvious choice. They have DR 5/silver which shouldn't pose too great a problem to your PCs. Maybe have them sent as advisors of the goblin adepts, clerics or sorcerors. While they probably wouldn't work as big bad guys, they'll certainly tip off your players to the demonic influence.

For the big bad guy, I'd go for some sort of fiendish or half-fiendish goblinoid with a few character levels (as others have suggested). Unless, of course, you're planning to have this be an extended adventure which raises them several levels, and so you could then start considering things like Barghests (which you'd have to change the alignment of) or some of the minor demons (such as those in the Manual of the planes).

Do you think that the PC's would make a demonic connection with a fiendish goblin or hobgoblin fighting them as opposed to normal ones?

Are they alien enough, without being too alien?

That shouldn't be a problem as long as you give them the proper "costume change" along with the stat changes for the Fiendish template.

"As you look at the small humaniods you've defeated, you notice they bear a strong resemblance to goblins. However, their skin ranges from bright red to coal black from creature to creature. Pushing aside their hair, you see several of them also have small, nubby horns growing from their heads."

If that doesn't tip them off, they all need to take Blind-Fighting the next time they come up for a feat.

Well its pretty simple. They are the first four monsters under the demon entry :)

Didn't Barghests (MM 1) mix well with goblinoids? And they have demonic origins or some such, IIRC. They're good to use with goblimoids. One Drizzit book had a good description about their ways, BTW, in a similar situation.

Great! Thanks for the help!

See, here's my idea for now

I will place several of these 'special' Goblins in the adventure... Salting them in with the regular population, but showing more dominance and intelligence...

Maybe, if things work out, the One that's waiting in the deepest chamber of the adventure, has like 4 or 5 Fighter levels... and he actually fights his way through, trying to just get away... and do a little damage along the way!

Don't get me wrong, theres much, much more Demonic elements to come in the plot... but an NPC that gets away can come back to haunt the characters later... here's the really sneaky part. He gets experience and gains levels too!

I think I see some good plot stuff forming here... any suggestions?

The problem with having a fiendish goblin with fighter levels is that at some point the PC's may be able to keep him from escaping when you want him to get away. He doesn't have the demonic escape option of teleport without error at will.

Then again if he does die just have him come back in a year and a day because he was just banashed back to the Abyss. Actually having the fiendish goblins disapear after their death would make it much harder for the PC's to prove the demonic connection to what could be viewed as a normal goblin annoyance.

Maybe have a goblin cleric that is summoning the fiendish goblins using lesser planar ally or something like that. He could be getting his marching orders from some demon higher up.
