What did we all think of Indy?

And what can Indy do to make GenCon more fun for ENWorlders Next Year?

Do you need directions to cheaper food? Anything?

I'll be happy to collect any requests and see what I can do for ya's next time you invade our city!

Yeah I know of little of Indy myself :) Though some of you who went out to us after the Ram might say I don't know my way the best.

The Seraph of Earth and Stone

I heard that some had complained of the food, and I know of a McDonalds-price-range food court just a few minutes farther from the Con than the Food Court at Circle Centre.

Ya just go out to the big suspended glass dome there on Illinois street, head north a bit... real cheap...

There was a McDonalds and Subway in the Hyatt. The McD was open 24 hours.

Loved the weather.

Hated the air/pollution/allergens. I dunno what it was, but I started hacking and coughing within a few hours of stepping off the plane, spent the entire time sick (though I didn't let it stop me from having a great time), and stopped almost as soon as the plane took off to leave. Whatever the problem was, fix it. ;)

Food prices. I don't want McDonalds-cheap, but I'd like the restaurants to actually be priced at the value of their food (or, in general, roughly 20% cheaper than they are now). To be fair, I know that's not Indy per se, but the fact that we're in/near a convention center complex. Still, if you're offering to work miracles, there ya go. :)

I found food prices problematic as well. Actually, the Hard Times Cafe was pretty decent. Subway was my mainstay this time as I loathe McDonald's.

As a business traveller, I am use to free breakfast at business traveller type hotels. And when we stayed at the Embassy last year, that lived up to my expectations as well. But I regretted shelling out $13 for breakfast at the Marriot and stuck to energy bars for breakfast the next two days.

I ate lunch at Einstein Brothers Bagels several times, and found it to be good salads and sandwiches at decent prices (under $8 including a drink).

As for hotel breakfasts, the Best Western had a free breakfast buffet. Not a huge spread, but plenty of cereal, bagels, waffels, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, juice, muffins, apples, oranges, etc. Typical continental breakfast stuff, but plenty of it. There were some additional hot items on Sunday morning as well.

When I went last year, my clever breakfast plans involved visiting Einstein Bros., buying a few bagels and some spread, then keeping it chilled. I had breakfast and snacks for the whole con that way for relatively cheap. Also, Steak & Shake a block east of the convention center. Open 24 hours, generally crowded at night, but the food was pretty good. They've also got decent breakfasts.

For food that wasn't 'cheap' as McDonalds but in that range, I went to the Red Eye Cafe a lot. It was about five-six blocks from the convention but there was no way I was shelling out $11.95 for a continental breakfast from the Mariott. I figured for that price, I could get the steak and eggs at the Red Eye Cafe. I did wind up eating power bars for breakfast a few times though almost out of not wanting to walk around as opposed to purely cash reasons.

Parking also seemed problematic. Mariott was something like what, $17 or $21? I wound up parking at the Hyatt for $11 a day. Which is ironic since I wasn't staying there. Still, did get to see the Subway and MacDonalds that was there.

I can't complain too much overall. I did a lot of walking so I was able to find all sorts of interesting places but downtown Indianapolis is small compared to Chicago where you can find all sorts of stuff. I didn't enter the mall though.
