What do you do for... Feats?

Remember those threads about classes? I really liked those. I was wondering if anyone wanted to share their opinion on feats.

Especially, weak feats that need to be made better.

(I'm sure we are going to get a lot of Power Attack talk, lets not make it a debate)

I allow my players to purchase feats using XP.

3,000 XP + 1,500 XP for every prereq. feat

Things like BAB, Ability to cast, etc don't count.

The character still needs to meet all prereq. before taking the feat as well.

Its worked great so far. No one is overpowered and the fighter is still the feat monkey of the group. Its really helps feat starved classes like Paladins, Clerics, Wizards, and Monks.

Grossly abuseable and while 3k of XP is punishing at low levels it's not very much at high levels where you could buy 5 or 6 feats instead of advance a level... and by doing so you've increased the power of your character without increaseing the CR level since it's tied to your level.

I agree. To use a method like this, the feat 'cost' should scale with character level. I would personally think that something along the lines of current Character Level x 500xp and a limit of only 1 additional feat is possible at each character level (max). This keeps a low level fellow from adventuring repeatedly at low levels and buying feats over and over again. The cost is still hefty enough for characters to pause before giving up leveling up for a feat. More stringent controls may even be necessary (like only 1 feat may be bought per 3, 4, or 5 levels), depending on your preference.

I've just given a bonus 15th level feat (so the PCs got two feats at 15th level).

I'll probably allow each PC to use a wish for one feat (like an Inherent bonus feat).

I give a feat every odd character level, plus a bonus 'Talent' (a special kind of feat) at CL1. This applies to all beings (i.e., not just PCs).

There is a feat required for entry into each category of spellcasting/channelling/psychic-type power.

I've also removed a few feats from the standard list, added quite a few, and modified a considerable number.

I'm sure there are other changes in my house rules book, but that's not with me right now, so. . .

I think the key is to play with people that don't abuse these things

Which is exactly what I do. My group doesn't really abuse the rules. We have our certain players, but most of them actually would rather advance a level then to buy feats.

Plus, my group knows that if they do abuse a rule that I gave, then that rule gets instantly thrown out with many problems for them.
