What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

The great thing is, you don't have to buy it blind. There is an SRD and a TON of free material.

Watching lots of these discussions, I think folks are better off investigating for themselves. There are lots of different, sometimes perplexing, interpretations of DH out there ("It's a 4E variant!") and any one of them could give you a false impression.

For the record this is one everyone I know who likes both games gets in a heartbeat (although "love letter to" is the more common phrasing) and none of those who hated 4e do in the slightest because the game they hated wasn't the one we loved.

I understand that Daggerheart takes some inspiration from 4E. It even says so. But "it's counts as a 4E variant" is taking it way too far.

My mental boundary for D&D variants is somewhere near but probably including Dungeon World.

Yeah, exactly. It’s clear as day, to me at least, that Daggerheart owes a lot…I mean a lot…to D&D 4E. Far more than just monster design. It really does seem like PbtA and 4E got drunk in Cabo one night and this is the happy result.

When a d20 and 2d6 love each other very much you end up with 2d12.

I love me some 4E: it's my favorite edition. At the same time, DH doesn't interest me in the same way at all. I like DH and I'm looking forward to running/playing it, but not for the tactical combat minigame. I'd say that the people who hate 4E haven't shown themselves to hate on DH either.

Nothing. I have more books already than time to play. I’d run 2e again or Savage Worlds, Vaesen, Cypher….

I just do not see anything to draw me to Daggerheart.

Maybe the often stated “it would be a good game if it wasn’t called D&D” trope is playing to DaggerHeart’s advantage here, since it isn’t a D&D branded game.
