Are we sure that's actually a monster? To me, it looks more like the standard 3e corebook design, with a quasi-organic twist.

Yeah, it looks like the book itself is trying to eat you. I like it, though I would've preferred to have the fleshy parts meld better with the rest of the cover. It looks kinda like someone took a book, took the severed head of a fish, stretched the skin out, and stapled it onto the cover.

I know the guy who does the covers for most of wizard's books. Henry Higgenbotham. I haven't talked with him much about this cover. He told me when he got the job, and what some of his early ideas were, but I hadn't talked to him about it since. He told me he wanted to do something "darker" than the MMI. Knowing his style, I doubt it is a creature at all. I think it is, like the other covers, just a design.


Note the gear-like designs at the top and bottom. The double-hinge appearance of the central image. That red glow in the middle is probably supposed to be an eye, much like the eye on the MMI.

Alrighty, is there something wrong with that image, because what I'm seeing looks A LOT like the MM1 cover. Red scales with an eye thingy in the middle, right?

So, did that image get swapped or something? And what red glow? There's a green eye.....

It's much better than the MM1 cover, who was ugly. Really ugly. My fav cover from the core books was the DMG so far. I also like the FRCS cover, and the S&SS covers (Relics & Rituals, Creature Collection 1 & 2).
