The game really doesn't "need" anything. If I never bought another product, I have plenty already to last years. I know this isn't what people are looking for, but WotC has done an amazing job of providing a significant amount of material while keeping bloat to a minimum. Now, as for things I think that would be useful for WotC to provide: A psionic class based on the short rest refresh abilities (I've half developed one using the Warlock as a model). Psionic subclasses would be neat, but the core concept just doesn't work if used as a sub-class. Theoretically a feat could work for a wild talent ability. I'd like to see a campaign book for many of the old settings. Not one for each, but a single book with a chapter for each setting. A brief description of the setting and a list of older books (available on DriveThruRPG.com of course) for details. The main purpose would be on how the various 5E rules would work for running that setting. It could include new races, classes, monsters, etc., as well as suggestion which variants and options would be useful or not. Not only would this reveal the rich history of settings that D&D has, it would help newer (and some not so newer) DMs on how to run the settings. The Forgotten Realms probably needs a full book for itself, since the timeline has been advanced for 5E. The SCAG was useful for the Sword Coast, but that's just scratching the surface of Faerun. I don't know if any other settings have been advanced for 5E, such as Eberron, but those probably need a full workup too.
