Necromancer Games should really try to market that book as an update of various old classics as it contains several other first ed spells too.
I'm not sure how restrictive the d20 license is in this regard. You would have to mention AD&D or similar product names, and they are not really part of the license.

Eldrtich Sorcery brings to life many old classics that have yet to see an official version. Some of our favorites include classics like Sticks to Snakes, Fist of Stone and X, Y, and Z.

Too many spells vanished in 3E; its a shame really. My personal favorite was Melf's Minute Meteors. I liked it so much that I converted to 3.5 and my mage uses all the time.

I understand that. What I meant is that there must be a reason why 'Eldritch Sorcery' carefully avoids any statement along the lines of "this book contains spell conversions from classic D&D versions". I can only imagine that the d20 license does not allow mentioning AD&D and the likes. The most simple reason: those spells are not in the SRD; that's why you have to pretend you just 'invented' them ;).

I guess you could say that casting a Summon Monster spell which uses sticks as a material component fits the bill. I would like more flavorful spells, though.

Couldn't you cast that spell on someone's stick-equipment, like their arrows?

It might not have been "legal" (who could tell in 2e?) but I used to cast it on archers. There would be a snake, some feathers, and a sharp piece of metal :)
