What happened to Reveille?

He was an EN World friend, but I just noticed vis a vis my own relative inactivity that he was "last active on EN World" in 2009.

I'm hoping he's okay...anyone have an update? Last I knew, his dad had passed away.

Well. Thanks. And, no, I'm not trolling. I don't participate in much on this site other than the PbP area. I do, however, consider Reveille a friend.

And this is all just very, very bizarre. Thanks for the two links you put up. I read enough to get the general idea. As my brother-in-law died of pneumonia after three weeks in a coma, Rev's prank is a little lost on me.

That said, he was a decent enough chap when I was conversing with him a couple years ago in the hivemind thread/s. I hope wherever he is, he's doing alright.

I can vouch for CB's character. She is not a troll. :)

I remember when all of it was going down. I was a lot more active at reading the General Discussion boards back then. It was completely bizarre.

Actually, iirc, it was determined that Reveille didn't actually have a girlfriend and his girlfriend's account was simply another alt.

The Hivemind... well, I remember being shocked by the number of Alts he had. At that time there was almost always someone around in the Hive and the scary thing we later found out was that most of it was him on some Alt or another. Seriously though, he had created like an alter-ego alt for each other member in the Hive. It was really screwy.

Ugh, why did I have to be reminded of this? Not your fault CB, I know, just, ugh, for those of us who considered him a friend and living through that crap, trust me, it was painful...

Sorry, that's what I meant -- and alt to be his girlfriend, as in, a fake one.

:)

My favorite part was when he mumbled the Forgotten Realms gods in his "coma" and Rev's Mandy typed them out phonetically -- but did them in the order listed in the book!

Yeah, some people claimed to have figured it out before then about the hoax, but when that post was made, everyone was like wait a second....

It was a strange roller coaster... that ultimately became a train wreck </dry heave>. But on the bright side, some of us have came up with a new term in response to the situation:

Fruing (froo-ing)
n.
1. The act of creating multiple online personas in a schizophrenic bid for attention.
2. The act creating multiple on-line personas based on the characteristics of individuals (on your friends list) in a misguided attempt at becoming the center of an online community.
3. Creating a hoax or prank using multiple online personas based on the apparent death, illness, or accident involving one of the personas (either fictional or real).

Sadly, it seems that "Fru-ing" has become prevalent on the net since every so often I hear a story about it on the news or from people I know.

I remember this.

It was bizarre watching it go down, and prior to finding out that it was all a hoax, he had received an outpouring of prayers and well wishes.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't someone even offered to lead a charge for donations to help pay medical bills?

And then when things went bizarro, there were a LOT of hurt feelings and mistrust, and a lot of people that sent out well wishes felt dirty afterwards.

The gent is banned, and discussing his long-past behavior in public is more than a tad unseemly. Let's let this one slide into the past, shall we?
